It's time for #FromTheDockFriday! It's been rainy and flooded here in Houston, which has created a lot of unknown conditions in the lake... lots of things to snag on, break my line, and all kind of other possibilities... it would stop a lot of people. But these people would be missing out on some of the most unique fishing opportunities you can find! Flooding means big fish closer to shore, baitfish on the move, and catfish going absolutely wild. Likewise, in our businesses and careers, there are a lot of times when we may find ourselves staring at an opportunity, but afraid of the unknown factors that come along with it. Don't let fear keep you from doing something great! #TheFishingRecruiter #constructionrecruiters #opportunities #OvercomeFear

Hired as Field Operations Managers last year, Will Batson and Jarret Fowlkes of Commercial Maintenance have been promoted to Junior Account Managers. “They are proactive, client-focused, and detail-oriented,” Customer Relation Manager Josh Wilder said. “These promotions are well-deserved, and we are excited to see Jarret and Will continue to thrive in their new capacities.” A graduate of Mississippi State University, Will joined Michael Hatcher & Associates in July 2023. Jarret, who graduated from Christian Brothers University, has been part of our Team for nine months. Both said they love our company’s camaraderie and family-like atmosphere and agreed that their stints as FOMs will be an advantage in their new roles. “Having been a Field Operations Manager, I can communicate issues to other FOMs about properties so they can relay that to the crews,” Jarret said, adding that from mowing and mulching to edging and trimming, “I wouldn’t ask them to do something I wouldn’t or don’t know how to do. That’s why I think communication is so important.” Their experience as FOMs ultimately benefits our Commercial Maintenance customers. “When I’m out on property or talking to a client, I can better explain our process of how we do things and give them a better understanding of what needs to be done and the timeline it will take to get it done,” Will said, noting the importance of building and maintaining positive client interactions. “We want customers to be able to trust us with anything they need or want done on their properties.” Check out the work that Will, Jarret, and our entire account management team can do for your commercial property at www.hatcherlandscape.com. #CommercialLandscape #CommercialMaintenance #Excellence #CareerGrowth #CareerDevelopment #CareerAdvancement

This is where Galveston Bay meets the Gulf of Mexico. Those ships at anchor are waiting for a pilot to navigate their 800 ft ship up the bay, which averages 11 ft in depth (the ships draught is typically 25-35 ft). There is a 500 ft wide channel carved into the Bay called the Houston Ship Channel which is 40 miles long and about 50 ft deep...almost 30 miles to within eyesight of downtown Houston. A reminder that hiring an expert in a given field can be the economical choice in growing a business.

Teacher/trainer with substantial experience designing, leading, and implementing a broad range of growth and realignment initiatives.
My very first job, at age 14, taught me a lot. I worked as an assistant maintenance guy at a mobile home park in rural southeast Ohio. That summer, the septic system for the park had an issue. The head maintenance guy handed me a shovel and told me the pit had to be shoveled out. It was hot, stinky work, and I was earning $2.00 an hour. I spent the afternoon shoveling human crap (and other things people flush down a toilet). So what did I learn? 1. No job is beneath me. (Why I never utter the phrase, "I don't get paid enough to do this.") 2. If it is worth doing, it is worth putting your best effort into the work. 3. There is pride in a job well done even if the job is stinky, gross, and maybe not even legal. What are some great lessons you learned from your job(s) before you found your career?

Our June Employee spotlight is Yohennes Gehbreaman! With 8 years at PECI, Yohennes has grown from Maintenance Foreman to General Underground Foreman. He's an incredible mentor in our underground division and a true team player who's always ready to help. His commitment to his crews, whom he considers family, is unmatched. We interviewed Yohennes with a lightning round of ten questions about his time with Professional Excavators: - How long have you worked at PE? I have worked at PE for 8 years. - How long have you worked in the industry? 16 years - How did you begin your career in construction? I started as a Laborer working with an underground crew, and worked my way up the ladder. - What accomplishment are you most proud of? I left my home country of Eritrea in 2000 for the dream of a better opportunity and life. It was a hard and long travel to get here and I would say that it was probably one of the proudest accomplishments of my life. Being able to make it all the way to Canada, meet my amazing wife and starting our wonderful family. - What's one thing you wish people knew about your job? I don't think people really know how critical my job can be, if our crew was to hit a feeder main. It could literally flood a neighborhood or downtown Calgary in a matter of minutes. - What do you find most enjoyable about working at PE? The people that I work with have become part of my family. It makes it enjoyable to come to work everyday and be with good people. - What's the most intriguing project you've worked on while working for PE? Just recently I was able to work on the new Calgary Event Center and the City of Calgary inspector had said that in the 30 years he had been doing this line of work, he had not seen an install with that degree of difficulty. The crew worked very hard and was able to pull it off incident free and on time. - What career goal are you currently working on? My goal is to keep the team safe and promote a healthy work environment that my crew enjoy coming to work each day. - If you could trade jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why? I would like to be Candace for a day so I could play with all of the company's money!! Haha Just joking, I enjoy what I do and I prefer the position I hold with the company. - Share something unexpected about yourself that your coworkers may not know? I am happily married to my wife Miriam for 14 years and we have 3 children: Kayden 11 years old, Eliora 10 years old, Benaiah 4 years and currently working on the 4th. #ProfessionalExcavatorsandConstruction #Safety #EmployeeSpotlight #Underground #Earthworks #GeneralContracting #Concrete #SiteServices #Asphaltpaving #Environmental #AlbertaConstruction #CalgaryConstruction #Construction
