https://lnkd.in/dKmRYt84 My latest piece was just published by FratelloWatches. It features a battle between two of Patek Philippe's references (6119G vs 5212A). Similar in some ways (price, proportions, same line), different in others (case metal, movement, aesthetic approach) made for a very interesting comparison. Give the article a read if you have 5 minutes, or drop a vote in the poll at the bottom of the article for which references you prefer from the two presented! #patekphilippe #fratellowatches

The Patek Philippe’s 5980/1R: The Rose Gold Icon, “El Jefe” In Name and Nature Few pieces have achieved the cult status of Patek Philippe’s Nautilus 5980/1R, the rose gold chronograph that has come to symbolise refined power and taste. Nicknamed “El Jefe” among aficionados, the 5980/1R’s combination of muscular design and 18k rose gold construction elevates it from a mere accessory to a talisman of influence, turning heads from boardrooms to private lounges. Unveiled as a bold evolution of Patek’s stainless steel models, the 5980/1R adds a level of warmth and opulence that resonates with those who view watches as more than just timekeeping devices. Its 40.5 mm case, encased in solid rose gold, and matching integrated bracelet immediately signal exclusivity, while the watch’s dark dial—offset by luminescent markers and a subtly integrated chronograph—offers a blend of functionality and elegance that has become a hallmark of the brand. Beyond aesthetics, the 5980/1R is powered by the self-winding CH 28-520 C calibre, a testament to Patek Philippe’s commitment to marrying beauty with mechanical brilliance. The watch’s power reserve, dependable movement, and unique design language reflect the kind of technical prowess that only a few brands in the world can deliver, making it more than just a status symbol—it’s an investment in timeless craftsmanship. Where exclusivity and character often outshine mere brand names, the 5980/1R embodies a distinct allure. It’s a timepiece that not only commands attention but also defines a lifestyle of discretion, authority, and lasting value. Much like its namesake, “El Jefe,” the 5980/1R stands as a rose-gold titan—respected, admired, and truly unforgettable.

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking WATCH Watches appeared in the 16th century. During most of its history, the watch was a mechanical device driven by clockwork powered by winding a mainspring and keeping time with an oscillating balance wheel. These are called mechanical watches. A watch is a portable timepiece intended to be carried or worn by a person. It is designed to keep a consistent movement despite the motions caused by the person's activities. A wristwatch is designed to be worn around the wrist attached by a watch strap or other type of bracelet, including metal bands leather straps, or any other kind of bracelet. Most watches that are used mainly for timekeeping have quartz movements. The expensive collectible watches value for their elaborate craftsmanship, aesthetic appeal, and glamorous design than for simple timekeeping, often have traditional mechanical movements, despite being less accurate and more expensive than their electronic counterparts.

The complexity of these mechanisms is such that only the most experienced and talented watchmakers can master them. For example, the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, with its 20 complications, is a masterpiece of horological engineering. How often should you polish your watch? This is a controversial topic amongst watch enthusiasts. Of course you want your watch to look as new as possible. However, polishing a watch too frequently can wear down its surfaces, especially if it’s plated or has intricate designs. To strike the perfect balance, you should get your watch polished at most every 2 years. With more intricate brands such as Patek Phillipe or Audemars Piguet, we would recommend even longer between polishes. It is also important to take good care of your timepiece in between professional polishes. You can do this by gently buffing your watch with a microfiber cloth to keep it looking pristine.
