We're committed to a girl-centered and anti-oppressive approach to everything we do. Committing to anti-racism and anti-oppression work is a lifelong process for individuals and organizations. We apply our anti-oppressive and girl-centered lens to four areas: partnerships in the Global South, power pathways for girls, advocacy, and communications, and our staff and HR policies. 1️⃣ Partnerships in the Global South: We've shifted the leadership of our Girls First Institute to these regions, emphasizing local expertise and participatory methods. 2️⃣ Power Pathways for Girls: Girls' involvement within an organization exists on a spectrum from inclusion to participation to power. We're keen to ensure girls have true power at She's the First—but we remain vigilant that girls' engagement does not become their unpaid labor. We believe in girls as agents of change—they are represented at all levels of our organization and involved in major decisions. 3️⃣ Advocacy & Communications: Our advocacy efforts prioritize ethical storytelling and respect for dignity. We organize relevant campaigns and provide resources for continued advocacy. 4️⃣ Staff & HR Policies: We're proud of our transparent and fair HR policies, which include a flexible work culture, experience-based hiring, and generous family leave. Join us in our mission for a world where every girl is educated, respected, and heard. Because when she's the first, she’s not the last. Introducing JUSWOMEN: Empowering Women with Justice We are excited to announce the launch of JUSWOMEN, an NGO dedicated to the legal literacy of underprivileged women. The name "JUSWOMEN" combines "Jus," derived from the Latin word "justitia" meaning justice, with "Woman," emphasizing our commitment to addressing legal issues and empowerment within the context of women's rights. Lavanya Narayan the founder, along with SHRUTIKA MISHRA, the co-founder, we are proud to launch JUSWOMEN. Our NGO is committed to empowering women through comprehensive legal literacy programs, which include workshops, legal aid clinics, and women's support groups. Our vision is to create a community where women are informed and equipped with the skills to lead their lives with confidence and autonomy. Addressing the problem of legal illiteracy among women is crucial. Legal knowledge empowers women to protect their rights, make informed decisions, and challenge discriminatory practices. It enables them to participate fully in society, fostering equality and justice. At JUSWOMEN, we strive to dismantle patriarchal norms that bind women to oppressive traditions, fostering an environment where justice and equality prevail. If you share this passion and commitment, we invite you to join our mission by filling out the Google form linked below. Together, we can empower women and transform communities. https://lnkd.in/djyqfYMD #LegalLiteracy #WomensRights #Empowerment #JusticeForWomen #JUSWOMEN

One of the best and most articulate explanations of the grave issues surrounding current gender ideology - 12 million women and girls effectively silenced on issues that affect 12 million women and girls. Seriously we have to all take a look at this and the impacts coming from it around freedom of speech and the complete loss of safe sex based spaces. A convicted male rapist self identifying as a woman and serving their sentence in a women's prison? Is this really happening? Yes and here in Australia. No more girls only sports teams? Yes also happening here. Change rooms where biological men are able to share the space with young girls and women? Yep. Women who are against these reforms are being labeled extremists and bigots, they are being abused, threatened and vilified ....and being silenced from providing any submissions for input to these changes. That's 12 million or so women and girls that are affected and yet not one of the voices is considered 'expert' enough to be heard. Please take 4 minutes to listen to this clip - Self ID laws have already passed in other States (Qld and Vic for example) and are currently in NSW Parliament.
The Australian Human Rights Commission’s new project ‘mapping threats to trans and gender diverse human rights in Australia’ raises grave concerns regarding freedom of speech, and in particular, the right of women to speak out about the adverse impact of gender ideology on their sex-based human rights, including rights to single-sex spaces, services and sports. What’s worse, women are being shut out of the consultation. Thank you Senator Claire Chandler for calling out this thinly veiled witch hunt by the AHRC, and for consistently defending the rights and safety of women and girls.

🚀 Building Feminist Practice: A Pocketbook for Human Rights Defenders 💪🏾 We 💕 this pocketbook from Civil Rights Defenders developed and produced by hope chigudu and Dawn Cavanagh with support from Khumo Ketshabile and Rudo Chigudu and editing by Mbalenhle Matandela and Eva Corijn. We love that it simplifies core feminist ideas for practical implementation, offering pathways to integrate feminist practice at personal, organisational, and programmatic levels. It's broken into five parts: 1️⃣ Basic building blocks of feminism 2️⃣ Feminism as a personal practice 3️⃣ Feminist practice in an organisation 4️⃣ Feminist practice in programming 5️⃣ Going deeper in our feminist practice 🌐 Highlighting the principle that "the personal is political," the Pocketbook emphasises the importance of understanding power dynamics to drive social change. It's designed for reflection AND transformation, encouraging us to reimagine societal structures. Check it out 👇🏾!

As we commemorate International Women's Day 2024 under the auspices of the UN theme, "Invest in a Women: Accelerate Progress," coupled with the African Union's focus on advocating for education, I am of the firm belief that the most impactful investment in women lies in education. Such investment not only fosters gender equality but also empowers women to make informed decisions. Comprehensive sexual education, in particular, plays a pivotal role in realizing this vision, ensuring that women are equipped with the knowledge and agency necessary to navigate their lives effectively. By working together, individuals and communities can create a world where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender.
