Applications for the Design+Science summer school are still open! ✒️🧫 In this year’s edition we will explore the concept of subversive realities through combining design and science. If you are a student of arts, humanities or science and you are interested in interdisciplinary learning of the topic “subversive realities” we invite you to join us from the 8th till the 12th of July in Ljubljana. Boštjan Botas Kenda, the co-founder of the Summer School, introduces this year’s edition: “We are interested in more, we want to enjoy an attractive and open learning experience. This year’s theme is mirrored in the quote of Italo Calvino: The ideal place for me is the one in which it is most natural to live as a foreigner.” Maja Drobne, the head of Education at PiNA and co-founder of the Summer School added: “This year, especially, we are focusing on how we can reimagine our future societies in a way that is inclusive, equitable, and forward-thinking. Our interdisciplinary approach encourages students to explore how various fields can converge to create not just new ideas, but viable alternatives to the systems and practices that currently govern our lives.” 📅 Applications are now open until June 2nd, 2024, you can apply here: https://lnkd.in/ddcnibzU For further information and timeline follow the link below, or reach out to us at design.science@aluo.uni-lj.si 👇 https://lnkd.in/dUc_Qh8b Don’t miss out on this enlightening experience! 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟯𝗿𝗱 "𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲: 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆". At a time when educators, librarians, researchers, and policymakers are very interested in the effects of recreational reading on children, it is reasonable to question whether pre-service teachers and other literature mediators are enthusiastic readers themselves. As a result, it is important to reflect on how children’s literature programs at the university level can develop positive attitudes towards reading so that students maintain and share this intrinsic motivation throughout their lives. The aim of this conference is to create a space for discussion and collaboration on teaching children’s literature and fostering a love of reading in university settings. This is an opportunity to share approaches, tools, and solutions for addressing these challenges. More information 👉 https://lnkd.in/dwQXQBxD #FosteringDialogueUIC #DrivingResearchForward

From the introduction of the 'Worldview Dimension' which I wrote for Gaia Education 's online course based on the 4D Whole Systems Design framework: "For the most part these crises we humans have brought upon ourselves over the course of many centuries through our attitudes towards each other and towards Nature, and through the concepts we have developed regarding who we are and the very purpose of our being here — in other words, our worldview. A worldview is a cultural phenomenon. It can and does change over time and worldviews can differ substantially across and even within cultures. But at its most basic level it is determined to a great degree by asking the most profound questions: Who are we? Where do we come from? What is our purpose? Where are we going? All of these questions are fundamental to how we individually and collectively make meaning. As such they are questions asked by all spiritual traditions and since the very beginning of our species. Even the first cave paintings suggest that as soon as we were human, we started to ask these kind of questions. ..." https://lnkd.in/dwS9nRB See also info on the upcoming 4D Regenerative Design Literacy learning journey which starts in November and in which I will take your through that framework and how to apply it to bioregional regeneration. https://lnkd.in/dJs9-GjX

Just finished reading "Student Life Experience by Service Design" by Ivo De Wit & Koenraad Keignaert. It is a summary of abstracts of projects on the field by students of Antwerp University. It just shows how much the field I graduated in in the 1980's has evolved since. First parts are the abstracts followed by students product design concepts, and an interesting last chapter that put the questions I had after reading to projects to rest. Very insightful. Recommended reading for anyone involved in the organization of higher education to get a better understanding of students' needs. #Studentlifeexperiencebyservicedesign, #Ivodewit, #koenkeignaert, #pruductdevelopment

I am happy to share the publication of my second research paper of my PhD: ‘The complexity of team teaching models: The relationship with collaboration and shared responsibility’, which is now available in ‘Educational Studies’. You can access the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eQS2GUVr. In this paper, we investigated how teachers’ self-reported collaboration and shared responsibility differ across team teaching models. These models represent the ways in which team teaching is established in the classroom. It is assumed that some models involve more collaboration and shared responsibility than others. However, empirical evidence regarding the extent of teachers’ collaboration and shared responsibility per model is currently lacking. Our previously developed CSTT scale (https://lnkd.in/e53syJ97) was administered among 555 team teachers to capture the levels of collaboration and shared responsibility experienced by teachers. The results indicate that the relationship between collaboration and shared responsibility on the one hand and the different models on the other hand is much more complex than theoretical definitions suggest. 50 free eprints are available via this link: https://lnkd.in/ew7b8gvP. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am grateful for the collaboration with Hanne Tack, Benedicte Vanblaere, Mathea Simons, and Ruben Vanderlinde.
