I had the honor of being invited to the 2024 DFW AMA Gala, which marked the culmination of this year's marketing nominations and final recognitions, including 'Campaign of the Year,' for which I was a judge. I found myself attending the event solo, and as an ambivert, this presented a personal challenge. Although I've been working hard to expand my local network, Dallas is still a relatively new city for me, and I didn't recognize many faces in the room. I was staring down the barrel of an unknown audience. This left me thinking, how might I efficient and effectively transform this unknown situation into the known? 🤔 I reflected on my marketing prowess and created a plan. 1. Set a personal goal to engage in conversations with five new people that evening (create a SMART goal). 2. Activate three engagement opportunities: over cocktails, over dinner, during the after party (engagement strategy). 3. Grab a new dress and put on a bright smile (brand marketing). 4. Listen, than respond (consumer understanding) 5. Discuss shared experiences (create relevance) 6. Convert initial outreach (share digital contact card) If you're an seasoned marketer life myself, you can use your experience in any situation. My seemingly small goal not only boosted my DFW network 180%, but also ignited a fresh enthusiasm for why I started Clever Disruption. Consumer Insight: When you invite a consumer to your event, there’s much to consider beyond just how to get them there. May I recommend including an experienced consumer in your planning if you are truly keen on incorporating consumer opinions? The consumer-led events I have attended, run by Metro South Consumer Partnering, have been exemplary. In my opinion, when the Metro South Consumer Partnering team is involved, I can relax and don’t need to advocate for myself at the event, as my needs are considered for me.

"At 12:15, I reported to work at the Medals Plaza where I nearly high-fived Usher, but then chickened out last minute as he was walking past me to go offstage." - excerpt from my Blogspot account, posted February 28, 2010 😂😂😂 This post is not a deep dive into what could have given me the impulse to high five a celebrity (what?). This post is about holding back from an opportunity. Have you experienced this? I certainly have. I have held back from connecting with a fellow businesswoman at a networking event. I've held back from sticking to my value-based pricing during a sales meeting. I've held back from being letting myself be authentic online. So many times, I think we HOLD BACK from doing something that seems scary, or that we feel inadequate for. I was ON STAGE at the Olympics, looking like a charcoal mashmallow with all my layers on, and had the opportunity to meet someone famous, and held back. In Spanish, my favorite phrase is, "el no, ya lo tenemos" - it means "we already have the answer no." If we already have a no by not going for whatever opportunity presents itself, we might as well try, because the answer can't be worse than the no we already have. Confused yet? Trying new things is hard. Putting yourself out there can feel so scary. But a lot of times, you'll be surprised what can happen when you decide to do it anyway. Here's to saying yes to new, scary experiences, to being seen, and to realizing that celebrities are just humans too.

Although fun, you need to be highly skilled in 3 main parts: 🌟Part artist: every CMO needs to have a passion for creativity 🌟Part scientist: CMOs need to be data savvy to drive effectiveness across the board 🌟Part cheerleader: if the business doesn’t understand what you (marketing) do, then it will be hard to get investment. You need the team to back what you are doing. Since joining boots, Pete has increased the marketing budget by 35%. Talk about elevating creativity to the board!
