Is your business structured as a single entity, or do you use multiple entities (corporations, partnerships, LLCs, etc.)? If you use multiple entities, are those entities considered a single controlled group? Controlled group determinations can have profound implications affecting retirement, health and welfare and other tax-advantaged plans. Benefits + Compensation attorneys Mark Bokert, Alan Hahn and William Szanzer review the various controlled group rules and what pitfalls to avoid when organizations update their corporate structure, in this Employee Relations Law Journal article. https://lnkd.in/gguQahBu #benefitslaw #DGPERKS #irscompliance

Super Tuesday — the day in which the largest number of states will vote in the US primary election — is this Tuesday, March 5th. Which makes this a great opportunity to remind everyone in those 16 Super Tuesday states to schedule your day accordingly and vote. Are you franticly checking your work calendar yet? Should you vote promptly when the polls open, sneak away over lunch or pop in the line right before the polls close? But wait! Before you start stressing, you may want to review your employee benefits. That's right — your benefits! An increasing number of employers are offering Election Day benefits, allowing employees paid time-off to cast that ballot. For example, at my last job, Election Day benefits allowed me two hours to vote, which was estimated based on potential lines, voting time and DMV-area traffic. If your employer doesn't yet offer voting benefits, send this article to your HR decision-makers and perhaps they can set things right before Election Day in November. 🇺🇸 #Benefits #PTO #SuperTuesday #Vote #GOTV #PresidentialElection

From HR Brew... Here is a successful organization that is now nearly 90% remote. No, not all major companies are returning to offices. Will Allstate benefit from this policy? Time will tell... "Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, employees at insurance company Allstate worked similarly to their peers at most other US companies. They spent five days a week in an office, either in the company’s Northbrook, Illinois headquarters or in one of its global outposts, which included India, Northern Ireland, and Canada. Fast-forward five years, and those Northbrook headquarters are mostly gone—the company announced it would sell the majority of this campus for $232 million in November 2021. Allstate has cut its overall office footprint in half, and almost 90% of the company’s employees now work from home. Enter Lauren DeYoung, who was appointed as Allstate’s “workplace futurist” in March 2023 to help the company’s 54,500 employees navigate this new world of distributed work." https://buff.ly/3Q36kGP

President at Mayflower Junction HR Consulting LLC - A 2024 Cape and Business Media Reader's Choice Top 10 Business to Watch - Human Resources Consultant - Business Owner - Small Business Human Resources Services
We recently assisted a couple of small clients with navigating Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) for an employee who was about to go out on leave and for an employee who was about to return. There are so many rules, steps, and things to understand about PFML. It applies to businesses of all sizes and any wrong interpretation of the rules can land your business in hot water. If you are a small business without an HR department or trained HR leader, we highly recommend reaching out to us before going through the PFML process with any of your employees. We will help to ensure that all steps are followed properly and that your business is fully complaint with the law. There are also steps that your business has to take and rules you have to follow even if you have no one out on leave. These include informing all new hires of their PFML rights within 30 days of hire, posting the PFML law in the office for all employees to see, and more. We can help you put together a process to make sure that all steps are completed and adhered to consistently. Please call, email, or text us today for more information. We want to help to protect your business and ensure that your employees are taken care of. #paidleave #employeeleave #pfml #smallbusiness #compliance
