Do you know the origins of the phrases “private eye” and “We Never Sleep”? An early operation was to safely deliver the newly elected U.S. President Abraham Lincoln to Washington, D.C., in light of an assassination threat. Pinkerton detective Kate Warne was assigned and successfully delivered the president to the U.S. capital city by changing the President's itinerary staying awake throughout the long journey. As a result of the notoriety of this success, Pinkerton National Detective Agency adopted a solo open eye as the logo. This was the first reference of a private eye, meaning an eye of a Pinkerton private investigator (PI). We Never Sleep has been our slogan ever since that success and accompanied the open eye on the logo. See more on the history of ‘We Never Sleep’ → https://pnk.tn/s5s
A proud former Pink (1971-1978, Maplewood, NJ & NYC offices) glad to see the history remembered!
The eye that never sleeps ! Just like America sometime they got a black eye. Allen Pinkerton and his agents gave Genl Mccellan faulty confederate counts in 1862 when the Union approached Richmond with a 120k troops and the Confederates had about 50k for defense but kept marching the same troops around in circles and the Pinkerton undercover agents counted them 3 times leaving the impression that they had 150k ! Little Mac was scared off and returned to DC. If they had taken Richmond and destroyed a confederate army then the war might have ended in 1862 !
The day that yall hire me I'll be a happy employee
