#SwissBuildingOfTheWeek - How do you create community and cohesion in a settlement with 110 apartments? Yves Schihin explains how two row-like volumes in the Waldacker residential complex in St.Gallen create a green common area. WA: What is special about this construction task? YS: The settlement is characterized above all by a warm, comfortable and neighborly atmosphere, which is created by the building material wood in connection with the spacious verandas and the communal interior space. WA: What is the inspiration behind this project? YS: Despite the high number of apartments - there are 110 in total - we wanted to create a neighborhood. That's why we created a green, identity-creating interior space between two row-like buildings. This forms the communal heart of the settlement; every apartment has a spatial connection to it. "Architectural Meditations (Part 2) : Ephemeral Realms of Transience and Contemplation" Playfulness and surprise: Ukiyo embraced the unexpected and the playful. In the urban architectural city, incorporating elements of surprise and whimsy can add an element of delight.
