To comply with the National Heritage, anyone who plans to modify historical structures must obtain a permit from their Provincial Heritage Resources Authority (PHRA). Most of these structures require preservation because of its historical, cultural, architectural, aesthetic and ecological value. #BuildingInspector #buildinginspections #buildingcompliance #heritagebuildings

When architects visit a place or a building, we strive to grasp its "parti"—the essence, the soul, the spark of the conceptual idea, the inner fire of the design. Recently, I shared some images of the Bat Trang Pottery Museum, designed by Vietnamese architect Hoang Thuc Hao. Here is my interpretation of the building's parti, and this is the link to the architect's project page: https://lnkd.in/gsE88Yef

In the realms of art and design, a poignant observation unfolds: the emerging voices of young architects often go unheard. They channel their aspirations, beliefs, and innovations through the eloquence of their designs, yet the resonance they seek remains elusive. It appears that the younger architects and their creative endeavors stand as the most underrepresented branches within the distinguished corridors of art and design. In contemplation of this intriguing discourse, I offer my reflections. It beckons an exploration into the depths of creative expression, where the vibrant energy of youth finds itself amidst the shadows. A narrative that unfolds silently, waiting to be acknowledged. I extend an invitation to engage with my perspective on this matter. Your insights are valued; let us collectively unravel the nuances of this artistic conundrum and open a dialogue that transcends the boundaries of conventional expression. Together, let us shine a light on the obscured brilliance of the younger architects and their contributions to the ever-evolving tapestry of art and design. #curate #architect #artanddesign #voices

What does the shape of a city reveal about space and urban community? How does the urban landscape transmit hidden meanings? This seminar will explore the urban design of Jerusalem as a shared space: a sacred site and a national emblem for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. It will rely on the reciprocal relationship between society and space, i.e., how different cultures produce different urban settings. to ask how a city reflects its living societies and examine the tools and tactics different societies employ to shape their living spaces through urban design, architecture, and urban planning. How can architecture and art drive solutions in our cities? This question was recently explored at BLOXHUB where Madeleine Kate McGowan represented the Garden Caretaker project. Inspired by the White Paper on the New European Bauhaus Economy by Dark Matter Labs, the discussion highlighted how art and architecture can help us reconnect with nature. The Garden Caretaker exemplifies this concept, serving as a bridge between urban living and the existing ecosystem. Read more on the potential of art and the garden caretaker in driving solutions in the cities in this article: https://lnkd.in/dWTB4F3n

Curious about what makes an environment "responsive"? This interdisciplinary manifesto dives deep into the intersection of design, technology, and human experience. Authored by leading experts and professionals Allen Sayegh, Stefano Andreani and Matteo Kalchschmidt, Responsive Environments explores speculative urban visions and innovative design projects across different contexts and scales—from interactive artifacts to augmented cities. Drawing on years of research at the REAL Lab at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and featuring work by INVIVIA and other trailblazing practices, this book reveals the experiential layers of our tech-mediated relationship with space. A must-read for those interested in architecture, urbanism, design, and art! Make sure to grab your copy today at https://lnkd.in/d_uvzGpR. This book is also available in e-version.

Chicago is world famous as the 'birthplace' of the skyscraper, one of the first forms of modern architecture. Did you know it is also the city where the American economist Thorstein Veblen wrote his classic text, The Theory of the Leisure Class? Published in 1899, this book takes aim at what would later be known as 'consumer culture.' In my new book, fresh off the press and available April 2nd, I examine Veblen's book (and his famous concept of 'conspicuous consumption), in the context of Chicago. How did this then-unique urban landscape inform his canonical text? https://lnkd.in/gX7wYvSA
