Team 123 recently participated in a fundraising dinner in Ocala for community members and local businesses who support UF Health Shands Children's Hospital throughout the year. Dewey Sanders & his team are always top fundraisers during our balloon campaigns for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, changing the future of kids' health with efforts under his blue roof and in his community!

Development Professionals are not sloths. We do however move very methodically and strategically I’m order to achieve long-term success. Some more thoughts on this below.
Successful Development Professionals are methodical and strategic. We don’t rush (except when we’re under a deadline for a gala or something), instead taking a slow and steady approach to our work. When Development Professionals rush, mistakes happen and donations are lost! We’re planners. We think ahead, sometimes waaaay ahead. At one org I worked at, I had the date set and booked for our annual golf tournament 3 years in advance!! And I drove the president crazy when I insisted we start looking for our next honorees, the day after our last dinner (actually 2 days because I always took time to recharge the day after our major gala). So, when people complain that we move like sloths, it’s not because we don’t know what we’re doing; it’s because we know precisely what we’re doing and working through it the way it needs to be done to be as effective as we know it will be!

I am excited to share the second video in the Navigating Family Philanthropy series. Families have a wide range of options, not only on the issues they give to, but in the structures that support their giving. Selecting a philanthropic vehicle or portfolio of vehicles is one of the most important choices you can make. Practicing effective family philanthropy means remembering that form follows function—the types and number of vehicles you use should align with the goals and purpose of your philanthropy. This video is a great introduction to the core concepts around vehicle choice. Here's one often overlooked piece of advice for running an effective board meeting: Boards often come together to discuss the challenges the nonprofit is facing and what the strategy will be to solve those issues, but don't forget to celebrate the wins too. Whether you crushed the year end giving campaign goal or served more people than ever before, highlight where things went right to keep your board informed and reminded of why they volunteer with the organization in the first place! The misconception that having multiple financial advisors equates to diversification is widespread. The fundamental issue lies not in the diversity of investments, but in the fragmented approach to managing them. Many people find themselves with a collection of financial advisors spread across various firms. Often a result of historical decisions, personal relationships, and chance encounters. This approach often results in a disjointed financial strategy, with each advisor working in isolation, unaware of the broader financial picture. This complexity becomes particularly problematic when it's time to make critical financial decisions in retirement. Advisors motivated by their AUM may inadvertently prioritize their interests over the client's overall financial well-being, suggesting that funds be withdrawn from accounts managed by others. Talk about confusion and chaos. Advisors, are you dealing with this now?
