🔹This week’s The State of the Search🔹 The Data 📊 · 38 days as a #FreeAgent #OpentoWork · 166 roles applied for · 64 declines (38% decline rate) · 64% to goal (goal = 100 declines) · 4 recruiter screens · 2 hiring leader interviews · 2 third round interviews 🟢 · 1 assessment · 148 miles run 🏃♀️ · 2 – number of times I was dive-bombed by the same mama bird on my run (I must be running near her nest sheesh, lol!) 🦜 What’s New 🆕 This week was a busy one, and I also slowed down on the number of applications I’m submitting. Highlights from the week include: · 4 interviews 🙌 · Completing a 3-day intensive Prosci® Change Management Certification course and earning my new designation as a Prosci® Certified Change Practitioner (CCP) This week’s shoutouts for making the candidate application process a breeze go to: · Zelis · Atlassian · Qualtrics · Anthology Inc Learnings 📚 Unrelated to my job search – the 4th of July holiday is fast approaching here in the US. Traditionally, it’s a holiday of celebration, fireworks, and BBQs. 🎆🌭🍔 It can also be a time of reflection. And a time of recommitment. Recommitment to dismantling the systemic racism that continues to be in place despite the Pledge of Allegiance’s false assertion of “liberty and justice for all.” 🇺🇸 Every year I’m reminded of Frederick Douglass’ keynote address given at an Independence Day celebration on July 5, 1852. Every year, I re-read it. That act in and of itself doesn’t constitute being actively antiracist. To help you stand out from the crowd and increase your chances of landing your dream job, I've put together an EASY step-by-step guide on how to optimize your resume for ATS compatibility. By following these strategies, you'll not only improve your resume's visibility but also increase your chances of getting noticed by hiring managers. Let's dive in and learn how to craft a resume that gets past the ATS and into the hands of recruiters! 1. Use Relevant Keywords from the job descriptions for the positions you're targeting and identify key skills, qualifications, and job-specific terms. Incorporate these keywords naturally throughout your resume to ensure alignment with the ATS's scanning criteria. 2. Opt for a clean and straightforward resume format. Avoid using fancy fonts, graphics, or language that may confuse the ATS or the recruiter. Your CV should be easy to understand at first glance. 3. Ensure your resume includes standard sections such as contact information, professional summary/objective, highlight of skills, work experience, education, and any volunteering experience, in that specific order. 4. Clearly state your job titles, company names, and employment dates for each position you've held. This helps the ATS or recruiter recognise your work history and determine your level of experience. 5. Customize your resume for each job application by adjusting the keywords and content to match the specific requirements of the role. This shows the ATS that you're a good fit for the position and increases your chances of passing the initial screening. 6. Avoid using Graphics and Tables. While visually appealing, graphics, charts, and tables can confuse ATS software. Instead, use bullet points and simple formatting to present information clearly. If necessary, you can include links to portfolios or online profiles where recruiters can view additional visuals. 7. Save Your Resume in the Right Format: When submitting your resume online, save it as a .docx or .pdf file to ensure compatibility with different ATS platforms. Avoid using file formats that may not be supported by all systems, such as .txt or .pages. Most recruiters would prefer PDF so please always send out your CVs in PDF. By following these steps and strategies, you can optimise your resume for ATS compatibility and increase your chances of getting noticed by hiring managers and get invited to interviews.
