This series has been eye-opening in reshaping our understanding of Meaningful Participation and highlighting the strong links between participation and equity. In the session "Enabling Localized Refugee-led Advocacy", we will dive into the unexplored connection between Meaningful Participation and Localization. Our experts throughout the series made the need for this connection clear: - Samara Hakim (she/her) stressed the essential role of cultural context. [Session 1] - Hafsar Tameesuddin insisted on being tired of seeing themselves in panels and on how representation should focus on communities. [Session 2] - Deepa Nambiar and Mohammad Baqir B. highlighting the importance of orienting partnerships to local contexts. [Session 3] - Hane AL Rustm spoke about how #Gaza was forgotten at the global level and the need for humanitarianism to get political. [Session 4] - Mahrukh ماہ رخ माह रुख़ Hasan حسن हसन shared their vision for a world less dependent on international humanitarianism. 🌍 The escalating impacts of the climate crisis, combined with economic and political instability continue to increase humanitarian needs around the world. We face crises that strain resources and demand that as humanitarian actors, we rethink traditional approaches to how we support people who need us now, more than ever. 🌟 But together, and in partnership, we can make a difference! 🌟 This week, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement convened its Statutory Meetings in Geneva, to agree on ways we can address the pressing humanitarian challenges that confront us and strengthen locally led action by National Societies #IFRC. 🤝 This included high-level representatives from the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Danish Red Cross who met to discuss our partnership, which has endured since the 1980s, and efforts we can take to tackle head-on the humanitarian challenges being experienced in Bangladesh and improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Only 2 nominations have been received from North America, and the Secretariat for IDIL is currently awaiting more nominations. It's really important that we have the voices of Indigenous peoples heard at the international level, and that means having a seat at the table. I would urge all relevant organizations and communities to consider nominating individuals who can represent and advocate for our interests on a global stage. Our participation is crucial in ensuring that our perspectives and experiences are included in the international dialogue. Partnership and collaboration plays a key role in humanitarian action.Humanitarian actors need to be trained on how to apply humanitarian tools towards effective humanitarian action while in the field. Today we affirmed our commitment towards supporting the national heroes with an aim of strengthening the agency as they do their work of promoting the culture of honor in this country. https://lnkd.in/dn2qC_p4

At this year’s #SummitoftheFuture, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General E. Amina Mohammed spotlighted the Development Impact Bond in Kenya—the world’s first for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH)—as one of three leading initiatives advancing the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. With 4/5 of global goals at risk and only 30% of countries on track to eradicate poverty by 2030, initiatives like the ASRH Development Impact Bond show how public-private partnerships can accelerate progress toward sustainable development. The ASRH Development Impact Bond is a partnership between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), World Health Organization, UNAIDS, SDG Partnership Platform Kenya, Government of Kenya, Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Bridges Outcomes Partnerships and Tiko. Thanks to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, Danish Red Cross and Swedish Red Cross for investing on collective preparedness leading to acceleration of local action in humanitarian and health crises. Appreciate the consortium leadership role played by Deutsches Rotes Kreuz and the thematic lead roles played by partners.

A new report from The Wilson Center discusses the role of US leadership in addressing forced displacement crises. "The world is at a critical juncture, with forced displacement surpassing 110 million displaced people, and instability in one place has spillover effects everywhere," shared John Thon Majok, MPA. Our Refugees initiative joined a panel of scholars to discuss the six major policy and programming issues that require consistent response and effective leadership by the United States.
