It is essential to maintain a humble attitude, especially in environments such as an internship. Showing initiative from humility allows us to approach those with more experience, which is always beneficial in any work context. In a work environment, which tends to be conservative out of necessity, understanding the reason behind this conservatism is the first step. In the specific case of the naval world, the need to build means that will withstand one of the most hostile elements of our planet, the sea, justifies the conservative attitude where well-founded and tested changes are valued. Therefore, it is crucial to empathize with the environment, be receptive to opinions, show an entrepreneurial spirit, and a genuine thirst for learning and contribution. In this way, you are likely to find someone willing to guide you. And when that happens, it is important to be noble, respectful, and understanding, especially when thoughts driven by pride arise, such as the belief that a superior is wrong. Understanding these principles will make your journey in the naval world enriching, full of pleasant memories in the future. Riccardo Peirano

Blue Origin Aerospace System Engineer | 2023 Matthew Isakowitz Fellow | Inaugural 2021 Patti Grace Smith Fellow
Some of the most successful and brilliant people I know tend to have four things in common: 1. A strong professional network of peers and professionals in their area of interest 2. A mentor who guides them along their journey and provides powerful insights/tips 3. An internship that has given them hands-on experience and re-enforce the fundamentals they learned in the classroom 4. A support system filled with people who believe in them and support them in their endeavors The Patti Grace Smith Fellowship program provides all of these elements to African-American undergraduate students seeking their first internship in the Aerospace industry. If this sounds like you or someone you may know, I encourage you to apply! From personal experience, this program has been the pivotal point in my professional career and made me into the person I am today. During my internship at UB Auto, I contributed to a significant project focused on implementing military acceptance sampling standards. To streamline this process, we developed an Excel-based system that automates complex calculations and provides clear visualizations. This system allows for rapid determination of lot sizes, inspection levels, sample sizes, sampling plans, and acceptance/rejection criteria based on AQL levels instead of entering a group of charts to get these values. Key features of our system include: ♦ Automated calculations: Efficiently processes data from military standard tables. ♦ Visualizations: Provide clear guidance on sample selection and inspection locations. ♦ Randomization: Ensures unbiased sampling by dynamically changing sample locations.

#Internships play a pivotal role in shaping the #futureworkforce, providing individuals with opportunities to explore their passions and plan their career paths. The 320 interns selected from 40,000 applicants at United Airlines are embarking on an exceptional journey and pursuing their dreams in #aviation. At The Endeavour Scholarship, we are passionate advocates for internships that drive #STEM/#STEAM education and invest in today's youth. We deeply appreciate our Kallman Worldwide, Inc. interns from Minnesota, Brigid Baier, and Jaelyn Jordan; they have not only learned from us but also contributed significantly to our organization and forged lasting bonds. Their presence will be missed when their internship concludes. Internships provide invaluable experiences for both interns and organizations, leaving a profound impact on the future workforce and development. It’s inspiring to see CEO Scott Kirby fostering such a supportive environment for interns at United Airlines, setting a commendable example for all. #Internships #STEMeducation #STEAMeducation #WorkforceDevelopment #FutureWorkforce #CareerDevelopment #ProfessionalGrowth #InvestInYouth #LearningAndDevelopment #EndeavourScholarship #Nonprofit #STEM #STEAM #KallmanFoundation
Out of 40,000 applications, 320 were selected to be summer interns at United Airlines this year. It was great to spend time with some of them this week talking about leadership, United’s future and, of course, where their flight privileges have taken them so far.
