I made an attempt to apply for a job and noticed the posting date for the position is April 17th, 2023. That alone made me not apply to the job. Why? That is a clear cut sign that the recruiting team at that company does not effectively manage their requisitions. There is absolutely no reason that we’re in August of 2024 applying to a job that was created 16 months ago. * Poor practice. Proactive recruiters know the importance of creating (not refreshing) requisitions every 30 days. I cannot imagine sourcing for viable candidates in a requisition that was created last year and has 3,000+ applicants. * Counterproductive.

Candidates hired this year, on average, applied to 18 jobs before securing employment. We analyzed nearly 13,000 hires from the beginning of 2023 to mid-April 2024, as well as the number of applications sent by hired candidates six months prior to being hired. The median number of applications before employment increased from 13 for those hired at the beginning of 2023 to 24 in August, but subsequently decreased to 17-19. This fluctuation likely stemmed from a decrease in job postings in September. However, the average duration over which candidates sent these responses also increased. Those hired at the beginning of last year responded, on average, over a period of 43 days (from the first application six months before hiring to the final one before hiring). By August, this period had extended to 72 days, with no significant decrease observed since then.
