The only reason Jim has a Heat Pump in his home is because of 2 HVAC20 guys, not sure why he's not listening to all these HVAC20 guys trying to help him... Can anybody help Jim here? Linkedin is a horrible place for complex discussion. I know a lot have tried, not sure if its failure to articulate properly, or poor comprehension or listening skills, crappy platform, or all of the above. I find it sad that Jim understands the importance of, and even gets upset when others don't get, how important it is to get ALL the important numbers for Measurequick. Yet he's venturing into home performance where he seems very cavalier about what numbers are necessary to get to understand how a home performs, and how these numbers are a critical minimum requirement for contractors staying out of trouble. At HVAC20 we embrace "responsibly AVOIDING responsibility" and eschew "irresponsibly ASSUMING responsibility". What Jim is suggesting is the latter. To us this is performing diagnostics, for free, and using it as a sales gimmick. If you are going to perform diagnostics they need to be useful for having a minimum understanding. This minimum understanding is clearly defined by the HVAC20 Comfort Consult, and If you cross the line into diagnostics, design, and taking responsibility for current conditions of a house, get ALL the information you need not one slice.

I'm sure we have all added our share of Variable Frequency Drives ( VFD's) across multiple hydronic systems within our commercial office buildings over the years, and are happy with the marginal savings derived by speed control of the motor based on differential pressure setpoint, instead of the bypass valve maintaining differential pressure needs within the riser. Rarely have I seen the next step taken, the step to take full advantage of the VFD energy saving capabilities. At 31west 52nd Street, our IUOE Local 94 Engineering team lead by Chief Engineer Ismael Echevarria and Asst Chief Larry Bilali , pulled the flow restrictive plug valves off the condenser water pump station and replaced with full bore Bray butterfly valves and flanged spool pieces. Eliminating this restrictive relic from the system gives the VFD and BMS better freedom to establish optimal flow parameters at a lower cost.
