In 2023, the equilibrium between speed and cost in South Africa's final mile deliveries is shaped by unique factors specific to the South African market. Back in 2007, e-commerce was like that cousin you only see at family gatherings - there but not making much of an impact. Commercial packages were the undisputed headliners back then (i.e. The Rich uncle with the Isuzu Legend 50 Bakkie). Fast forward to 2023, and e-commerce has stepped into the limelight, giving commercial packages a run for their money. Free shipping, once as rare as a SMEG kettle sighting at the township, is now as common as "Mogodu" on a South African menu restaurant. Customers don't just want their packages; they want them faster than Cheslin Kolbe's Block against France! The carrier landscape has expanded faster than Midrand. In 2007, there were a few big players and not much else. Today, you've got more options than flavors of boerewors at a braai. Final mile delivery providers and gig workers have joined the party, making the delivery game more fun (and funny) than ever.
