The use of psychological assessment in candidacy for procedures such as neurostimulation has been researched and discussed over 50 years. Implantable devices require surgical clearance by a psychologist due to the potential interaction of various mental health comordibities on pain, compliance and surgical outcome. This area of research is growing and a number of recent papers have discussed this process. It has been interesting to speak with providers in different countries to learn the standard of care and how the biopsychosocial model is being used. Many providers I spoke to today felt the multidisciplinary assessment of pain patients was crucial for surgical success in the long term. #neuromodulation #spinalcordstimulation #medicine #psychology #assessment
