The Illusion of Democracy: A Global Perspective In today's democratic world, there is a trend of democratic erosion affecting significant nations. As governments manipulate elections and control the media, fundamental rights such as freedom of speech and fair trial are undermined. This weakens democratic governance and leads to Human Rights abuses. Given the upcoming 2024 elections, we can observe: 🔹 India: The world's largest democracy is marred by actions undermining its democratic fabric. Harassment of opposition, press intimidation, and the judicial system's manipulation are steps towards dismantling its democratic ethos. 🔹 Pakistan: Electoral rigging and internet shutdowns reflect a pseudo-democratic regime struggling to maintain a facade of legitimacy. 🔹 UK: Voter ID policies and disinformation campaigns are tactics employed to sustain power, revealing a fragile democratic structure. 🔹 Indonesia & Iran: Leaders with questionable pasts and controlled elections depict a controlled narrative far from democratic ideals. 🔹 Israel: Israel presents a paradox of democracy, where significant portions of its population, particularly Palestinians in the occupied territories, are disenfranchised and lack fundamental civil rights. The disparity between democratic ideals and on-the-ground realities raises critical questions about the inclusivity and equity of Israel's democratic system, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive political and social reforms to ensure. 🔹 Mexico & Bulgaria: Gender and leadership dynamics and repeated elections point towards systemic instability. 🔹 Serbia & Venezuela: Election rigging and opposition suppression are blatant attacks on democratic principles. 🔹 Russia & Europe: Political assassinations and the exploitation of crises illustrate direct assaults on democratic institutions. In Russia, the killings of Boris Nemtsov and Anna Politkovskaya signify a chilling attempt to stifle dissent. In Europe, the murder of British MP Jo Cox highlight the threats facing democratic societies. 🔹 United States: The United States is facing significant internal threats that challenge its resilience. The polarisation of political discourse attempts to undermine the electoral process, and the spread of disinformation have all contributed to a fragile democratic landscape. The internal conflicts underscore the urgent need for immediate and renewed commitment to democratic principles, civil discourse, and robust protections for the electoral process to safeguard the nation's democratic integrity. The global crisis of confidence in democratic governance is a human issue, leading to apathy and disempowerment. We must collectively fight for democracy principles. The power of democracy lies in the hands of people. We must safeguard it for a future where every voice is heard and respected. https://lnkd.in/euB6D6DZ #Democracy #GlobalPolitics #HumanRights #CivicDuty #Leadership #Governance #PoliticalAwareness

It is clear to see. Everywhere political systems are split in two. Why is this the case in widely different countries? Democractic structures in the modern society with modern boundaries are not working. We need a reset, but that would not just be a flavor of the month. It would involve traumatic changes. It is already happening. News like this is only the preview of coming attractions. We must not allow or permit US citizens who live abroad to VOTE - voting should be for those who live where the laws apply not those who live outside. As a requirement, to run for president one must live within the US for 12 years consistently to the date they file to run. Why should US citizens who live abroad at their will be allowed to vote? This is another way Democrats want to influence the 2024 election - we must sue to stop this. “For overseas citizens, registration forms are only in English; however, Peace Corps can highlight that FVAP has registration instructions in French, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. Provide translated instructions to post via Diplomatic Pouch. For domestic citizens, we can provide those same instructions either in hard copy format or pdf,” the plan says. Biden’s order, issued in March 2021, required most federal agencies to submit a strategic plan for getting out the vote. House Republicans advanced legislation to rescind the Biden executive order on elections, asserting that it could put the federal government’s thumb on the scale in elections. Meanwhile, GOP state legislators in Pennsylvania have sued to challenge the constitutionality of Biden’s order.

We can prove that if we work together, we can be agents for positive change for our citizens. This involves everyone — from civil society to national authorities, politicians, and institutions. Joining forces, we can make democracy more resilient and fit-for-future, a democracy that improves lives across our European towns, cities and regions. Thank you to Roberta Metsola for contributing to our #EESCPlenary. We stand as key partners of the European Parliament, today and in the future. #EUCivilSociety #EU #EuropeanUnion
