Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year’s focus is the vital connection between mental health and work. People’s mental health is supported by key workplace policies like paid leave, a living wage, and coverage of mental health care. It’s also important to think about state and local policies that affect how people are able to show up at work. For example, we know that access to safe, affordable housing affects mental health; workforce policies can help expand the pool of behavioral health providers; education policies affect employee’s children; and policies can be enacted to improve income security. Our collection of resources to support children’s mental health provides information and policy solutions in these areas. While these resources are framed specifically to address the needs of children, the policies, if implemented, can also support children’s parents and guardians in the workforce. Employers can be key supporters of these policies in their communities.
