We’ve come full circle! After experiencing the incredible European football championship with you at the Fan Zone in Berlin this summer, we spent last week restoring the area to its original state. Just as it was installing our turf, it was a true team effort removing it too, taking a few days to complete. A massive thank-you to our amazing on-site team and our partners for making it happen! By the way, this is not the end of the road for the artificial turf, which will find new life in various projects across Berlin, including the renovation of soccer courts and in support of social institutions. A lasting legacy of this fantastic project that will benefit Berliners for many years to come! #EuropeanChampionship #FanZoneBerlin #SYNLawn #Polytan #FormaTurf SYNLawn, FormaTurf GmbH, Polytan GmbH

The redevelopment at Tokyo's Jingu Gaien should go ahead. Opponents would have you believe the project is akin to paving paradise to put up a parking lot -- that in the words of one organization, it amounts to a “complete destruction of the urban forest formed and nurtured over the past 100 years.” This is fiction. The area is in serious need of a facelift, with the rugby and (particularly) baseball stadiums aging and badly in need of refurbishment. Most people I talk to think the project means the famed rows of ginkgo trees will be razed. But the plan has always been to preserve them. Much of the "thousands of trees" set to be removed are actually shrubs -- azaleas and the like. Given the scale of the redevelopment, the plan does include the removal of some several hundred trees, but more will be planted in their place. The finished plan will include more open green spaces than now, which the area solely lacks. This isn't, in the words of one critic, “like building skyscrapers in the middle of Central Park.” One skyscraper will be built where there is already a high-rise (Itochu's aging and unsightly HQ). Another will be built where there is currently a *literal parking lot*! More within in my latest for Bloomberg Opinion, free to read for the next week: https://lnkd.in/gSd47XzJ

The Superbike Ladies League stands as a paragon of global sportsmanship and unity, driven by a statute that is as dynamic as the races it governs. This document is not merely a set of rules; it's the lifeblood of an association that champions the prowess of women on the superbike racing stage. Within its pages, the General Assembly emerges as the democratic pillar, where members' voices fuel the league's direction. The elected Board of Directors navigates with a vision that transcends borders, embodying the league's multinational ethos and commitment to excellence. Voting procedures reflect the league's inclusive spirit, ensuring every member, present or by proxy, shapes its future. Extraordinary Assemblies pivot with agility, addressing urgent matters with the same fervor as the races themselves. Minutes from each assembly are meticulously recorded, a testament to the league's transparency and dedication to history. The Internal Regulations, approved by the assembly, are the operational gears that keep the league's heart beating strong. The Superbike Ladies League's statute is a declaration of its global mission, a commitment to integrity, and a celebration of the indomitable spirit of women racers. It's a spectacle of governance that matches the thrill of the track—where strategy, speed, and solidarity ride in unison towards victory. 🏍️🌍🏆

What if all politicians were former athletes? Recently, Finland elected a new president who is proving that the combination of sports and politics can be a winning formula. Alexander Stubb, a 55-year-old triathlete with a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics, fluent in five languages, and with extensive ministerial experience, secured the presidency with an impressive victory. But we're not just here to highlight his remarkable academic and professional credentials. We want to emphasize a gesture Stubb made after the intense electoral battle: he visited the campaign headquarters of his main opponent, Pekka Haavisto, to express gratitude for the tough battle and acknowledge the dignity and honor of his adversary. This act of fair play in politics is inspiring and raises an interesting question: what if more politicians adopted sportsmanship in public life? Mutual respect, ethics, and the pursuit of the common good could become fundamental values. Here at Sportrack, we believe that sports are not just about competition but also about values that can be applied in various areas of life, including politics. Supporting sports means endorsing the promotion of positive and constructive attitudes in society. Congratulations to President-elect Alexander Stubb for his victory and the exemplary display of fair play! May his gesture inspire others to tread the path of politics with respect and sportsmanship. #PoliticsWithFairPlay #Respect #AthletesInPolitics #Sportrack

Big news out of Manchest-a that Manchester United is considering building a new stadium (costing at least $2.6B) instead of renovating Old Trafford. There certainly will be interest in this project from the American sports business and venue-constructing industry, interest that has already been reciprocated by Man U, which has visited SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park 3 times apparently in its early research: https://lnkd.in/en_E83Up + Here is Old Trafford on Google Earth Pro - I don't know if the club is able to acquire any of the land around the stadium, much of which seems to be associated with rail transportation: https://lnkd.in/e-cChpBb + It's easy to imagine that a new Old Trafford project would bear some similarities to what FC Barcelona is doing with Espai Barca (at least the stadium parts and potential financing), which I wrote about recently here: https://lnkd.in/eKRm_mw3 It's interesting that as many American venues downsize capacity, these major European soccer clubs (which are truly global brands) see opportunity in increasing theirs...
