This randomised study, conducted by the pioneering team at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and shared in the prestigious Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, demonstrates that implants like Microthane® and MESMO® are shown to encourage the development of a more dynamic, less fibrotic capsule preventing the risk of capsular contracture compared to traditional smooth and macrotextured surfaces.

Abstract
A temporary apposition of retina and choroid has been created during retinal detachment surgery by injection of sodium hyaluronate into the suprachoroidal space in 14 patients. The iatrogenic choroidal detachment lasts at least seven to ten days, allowing adequate time for retinopexy to permanently seal the retinal hole. Suprachoroidal implantation is compatible with and additive to conventional retinal detachment techniques, or it can be used alone as a primary treatment modality. Further clinical evaluation and development are necessary to establish indications and limitations for this technique.

As a part of this research on the miniaturized and implantable force-sensing system for spinal fusion surgery, we will present an ultra-low power force sensing interface this Thursday (6/19) at the Symposium on VLSI Circuits 2024.
For precision sensing, conventional systems require continuous-time circuits, such as amplifiers, current references, filters, and regulators. They typically suffer from variabilities, feedback stability, matching, and start-up time, as well as high power consumption due to their static currents.
This work, titled "A 0.29pJ/step Fully Discrete-Time Charge Domain Bridge-to-Digital Converter for Force Sensing in Spinal Implants Using RC Bridge," offers completely dynamic operation using transistors as only switches. The static current of the conventional Wheatstone bridge is also removed by replacing it to the proposed RC bridge. Overall, the energy efficiency is improved by more than 10x compared with the prior arts.

One challenge in the surgical management of #breastcancer is maximizing the preservation of healthy tissue while achieving acceptable negative margins.
This paper reports on the intraoperative use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in 3 patients with DCIS. In all 3 cases, additional lesions identified by OCT during surgery were also noted in histopathology reports 3 to 5 days post-surgery, suggesting that intraoperative use of OCT is a valuable tool for margin assessment in real-time.

Our newest paper "3D-assisted corrective osteotomies of the distal radius: a comparison of pre-contoured conventional implants versus patient-specific implants" is recently published in the European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery.
This cadaveric study aims to assess the postoperative accuracy of 3D-assisted corrective osteotomy of the distal radius using either a patient-specific implant or a pre-contoured conventional implant. It concluded that both workflows results in accurate corrections. The choice of implant type should not solely depend on accuracy of the correction, but also be based on other considerations like the availability of resources and the preoperative assessment of implant fitting.

Full endoscopic L4/5 TLIF for grade I spondylolisthesis
A 44 year old patient presented with severe leg pain and reduced mobility over 2 years.
It is possible to reduce the slip with endoscopic cage placement and percutaneous pedicle screw insertion. The power of minimally invasive surgery, demonstrated here can be offered in selected cases.
Admittedly, alternatives such as ALIF and XLIF, which I also practice, have a definite role in the management of these or more complex degenerate cases.
