And I sincerely believed in what I was doing. I learned a lot about international business development and other cultures. But something was eating me from within anyway... At some point, I noticed that this approach doesn't work often. It was really hard to trace: who managed to penetrate the market and who couldn't even if a partner search project was generally successful (meeting with the interested parties arranged etc) Partner search projects can't be done as the first stage of internationalization (if the company hasn’t been selling on this market before). It can't be done like "I have a great colleague in UAE or India, let's do it there!" (this is relationships sales but even great relationships don't give you any guarantee!) The hard part of this learning was: there might not be a market for the product or the company wasn’t ready to provide partners what was expected. If the company can’t match local market expectations with its capabilities, it doesn’t make sense to organize calls, trips and meetings.
