At the end of this spring, Poom found itself in a state of despair. Our investment money was dwindling, prompting us to suspend all of our salaries from February. The earnings from deliveries barely covered the taxes. I was seriously considering accepting a corporate job offer to dodge the growing debts. That's when a family friend, who's been working at a dry cleaners for over 30 years, handed over an envelope filled with a year's worth of her hard-earned savings. From 100-dollar bills to one-dollar bills, she diligently saved every extra penny. "Hang in there for six more months; then, you can quit," she encouraged. Then more friends discreetly contributed, sending funds to Venmo, delivering groceries regularly, even forgoing a child's birthday party to finance Poom's new laptop. Some canceled vacation plans to help cover the bills, and others acquired new skills to assist behind the scenes. Moreover, many of you generously paid for so many meals, shared bread, and facilitated incredible intros for Poom to grow. The most significant aid often came from those facing struggles of their own. The past 12 months have been a rollercoaster – from car accidents to money struggles and legal challenges – you name it. Yet, countless friends offered their resources, labor, and time to carry Poom, once again. And somehow, against all the odds, we've achieved all of our quarterly milestones this year. This isn't a fairy tale; it's a humbling journey that has taught me the true meaning of 'love in action'—experiencing the beauty of 'poom-ah-shi' (sharing resources, talent, and labor as a community in Korea) from ground up. Choosing to go all-in wasn't a surrender to pressure; it's recognizing the incredible humans who turned tough times into a story painted with the colors of gratitude. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving From Sylvia.

Remember that hot summer when you decided to open up a lemonade stand out in front of your house? Chances are, your mom paid for the lemons, cups, and whatever else you needed. But she also did more than that. Imagine showing your mom all the money you earned—all those quarters, dimes, and the odd dollar bill. Instead of letting you blow it all on bubblegum or trading cards, she probably told you to stick some of it in your piggy bank. “After all,” she’d say, “if you save up enough money, you’ll be able to buy that 10-speed bike you keep talking about.” In other words, your mom taught you the importance of saving. In fact, chances are she did more than that. “You know,” she probably said, “if you take some of the money you earned, you could use it to buy better lemons. Or you could use it to buy the materials you need to make advertising signs and flyers.” Soon, you were attracting more customers, selling more lemonade, and making more money. So, in a sense, your mom taught you the importance of investing. Fast forward to today. Saving and investing are a big part of reaching your financial goals, aren’t they? So, whenever you check off another item on your personal bucket list, make sure to thank your mom.

Surprise! Christmas is coming again. Yes, I'm panicking too! I should have done more by now! But are you also freaking out over the cost? Pay attention to what you spend on Christmas this year. Write down every purchase. That will help you raise awareness and keep you from going over the top. If you don’t have savings for Christmas this year, how can you do better next year? Make a savings plan! What if you had enough cash saved to have Christmas paid for by next June? Or maybe even next November? Wouldn’t that be awesome?! Take the amount you spent this year and divide that up by 6 or 10 months. Open a separate savings account you can’t easily touch and start transferring money monthly to start saving for Christmas. I’m looking forward to celebrating this win with you next year! If you need help staying accountable with building this savings and sticking to a spending plan, I have a monthly plan to help you with this!

This is not my photo, nor is it my dog, but I love it. This dog's attempt at a smile is just hilarious. Giving your loved ones the gift of money or valuable assets this Christmas will undoubtedly make everyone smile, especially since you could save on taxes and make your money work harder for the whole family. Tax-smart giving is not only generous but also a way to move your money across generations in the most tax-efficient ways possible. From cash gifts that fall within the £3,000 annual exemption to contributions towards big life events like weddings, the options are plentiful. If you are thinking about making a significant gift this year, keep in mind the potential implications for Capital Gains Tax. However, some exemptions and allowances can help, and with the right planning, you can ensure your generosity is not accompanied by an unwelcome tax surprise. So, as you get into the spirit of giving this festive season, take a moment to consider how your gifts could offer more than just immediate gratification. With some foresight, your Christmas giving can support your loved ones' financial well-being long into the future. #Christmas #TaxEfficiency #Finance #Planning #Wealth

Don't go into a food coma with your money! Here's what most miss about finances: It's not just about the fun stuff. Individually, all these different buckets can mean nothing. The combination of them is what really matters! Here are some things that should be considered: 🍗 Why you have them? 🥕 How do they work with one another? 🥧 What role they play with your goals? 🌽 What are the pros/cons of each bucket? 🥖 What is your time horizon? By having the right plan, you can put a purpose to your paycheck and give each dollar a job description! Just because you have a favorite Thanksgiving food doesn't mean that's the only thing you prepare (maybe you make or eat more though 😂 ). You wouldn't wing a Thanksgiving dinner. Don't wing your finances either!! #thanksgiving #financialplanning

I present to you the (not so) perfect day - a story of this past Monday. The day started out pretty usual with hitting a handful of my morning goals to start the week off right. Up a little late, some rushing involved but not too much. Start my first team meeting at 9 with Matt, and at 9:30 got the call from our 3 year old sons school. “I think your son has pinkeye, come pick him up immediately.” Day derailed at that point and still a LOT to get done. Scramble to cancel 5 meetings, book an appointment with pediatrician, coordinate with Lauren, call the school, head to the school, pick up son. This is where things get crazier as he has some other health issues (nothing major), I get a doomsday letter in the mail about an urgent Tax issue, I pay 6 figures in bills, I run by the bank, meet contractor at the house who finally gets cable buried correctly after 11 mos and 1k in property damage, scramble and respond to 15 urgent texts, make some calls, put out some fires, drive to the tax office (permanently closed), get someone very helpful on the phone to resolve issue and find issue was outside of my control, make a quick pit stop for son go use bathroom, get home late to chaos, decide to pack in the morning for flight after kiddos are in bed and get house cleaned up. I didn’t hit my daily goals. I felt torn on my phone and on the computer with my son around when he just wanted to play. I make it a habit of NOT working around him or using my phone. Now the lesson in it all. I still found Joy in the imperfect chaos. I still had more fun with my son where he saw me working hard. We had conversations about helping homeless people and dealing with hard situations. He saw me not giving up. My wife pulled hard and helped extra around the house after a long day of work too. Find the gain in the day, not all the areas you fall short! That simple change in perspective, makes everything a lot better! What were your wins for the day. #growthmindset

Five Fact Friday + Bonus Fact- Holiday Edition A very busy Saint Nic, Santa’s super-fast sleigh, and your holiday frustration has a name. • St. Nicholas is also the patron saint of banking, pawnbroking, scholarship, pirating, butchery, sailing, thievery, haberdashery, orphans, royalty, and New York City. • before there was a national US Currency, Santa Clause appeared on currency. A total of 21 banks in eight states created notes featuring Santa Claus, with seven of them even printing an entire Santa Claus vignette on their currency • Traveling 218 million miles, Researchers calculate that if Santa is to reach every child on Christmas Eve, he has only a millisecond to go down each chimney, eat cookies, and distribute presents. • Santa's sleigh would weigh over 400,000 tons if it carried enough toys for all the children in the world. To carry that much weight, Santa would need over 360,000 reindeer. • "Wrap rage" is the anger and frustration felt when you are unable to open packages. • All letters addressed to Santa in the United States go to Santa Claus, Indiana.

Day 42: Choose a seemingly ordinary day that holds special meaning. As I think about a seemingly ordinary day that holds a special meaning on Sundays, I’ve dedicated myself to rest, relaxation, and fellowship with the body of Christ. These days have been fruitful times throughout the year for connecting with my family, turning off my phone or leaving it behind, and enjoying the day without thinking about the hustle and bustle of work. On these days, I’m not rushed in my interactions with my children, and we can play without the next meeting, the next event, the next task, etc, most Sundays. Also, we have a dedicated book of the Bible we read through, particularly on Sunday; although it hasn’t been as consistent as I’d liked it to be, it is essential. As far as connecting with others, I’ve hosted a men’s fellowship at home and enjoyed connecting with brothers in Christ around the word of God and a meal. I believe a house, a building, and a property should be maximized. Our goal is to leverage the real estate God has given us for his glory and the good of others. Homeschooling and hosting others at home are enormous blessings for us and others, allowing us to maximize our real estate. I’ve seen huge homes with little to no use in my work. Creating memories on the Lord’s Day has a special meaning to me. To support the work of God on TSU and the Third Ward, click on the link. https://lnkd.in/g_SNS_2y. From Stormy Skies to Financial Freedom: My Journey of Gratitude Good morning, everyone! 🌞 I wanted to share a moment of gratitude from this past weekend. As I watched the horses and saw the clouds darkening, we all hoped the rain would pass over. I looked up at the sky and had a realization: life is like those clouds. We all go through storms, but eventually, we come out on the other side. Today, I'm celebrating a milestone. I just paid off my city taxes! I made the first payment back in February, and today, I paid the last two installments. The feeling is incredible! Tony and I have struggled for years, dealing with bills and trying to enjoy moments like yesterday. We've been through bankruptcy, and times were tough. But I decided enough was enough. I wanted to contribute and start earning my own money. It's been a journey—long hours, lots of learning, and plenty of frustration. Many hours were spent on Zoom, teaching, and learning. But I did it! I'm not quite where I want to be yet, but I'm halfway there, and that's something to celebrate. Today, I paid almost $2000 in city taxes with my own money. I have a savings account I don't touch, and I have a financial goal in mind. We've had to change our lifestyle habits, and it hasn't been easy, but we did it. I'm so proud of myself for paying those last two installments simultaneously. I'm grateful for my online gig, community, and everything I've learned. But most of all, I'm thankful for finding my voice, my passion, and myself. I believe in the power of mindset and positivity. It's the most important thing. How has the power of positivity and mindset impacted your life? Share your thoughts with me! #Gratitude #Mindset #Positivity #Community #FinancialFreedom
