The goal is not to become an "influencer" per se but to leave those around you, that follow you or are connected to you on LinkedIn better. People will do whatever it takes to gain vanity metrics and look like influencers on LinkedIn. They will join engagement pods, they will connect with anyone and everyone to build a large network regardless of who they are connected to, and people will even use automated software (which violates the LinkedIn User Agreement) to bolster their network growth.
