Global Interactive Entertainment, betting, gaming and gambling recruitment - Executive Search Consultant at Odgers Berndtson
Love that #fallout has been successful on TV. Thought it was going to be hard to eclipse #TLOU but it seems to be on the right track. From a people perspective we are seeing more and more requests for crossover talent between interactive entertainment and broader media. It’s exciting! It also helps that our global gaming, media and sports practice is set up to support this trend! ;) #transmedia #executivesearch #interactiveentertainment #videogames

Co-Founder & Analytics Lead @ UP UP I Transmedia, Entertainment IPs Management and Gaming Analytics Expert
Great insights from #transmedia pioneers @ Skybound on how to maintain appeal while adapting an interactive medium like #videogames into a passive one like #Films/TV #series. Goldman highlights how paramount intrinsic game and show quality are to the initiative's success, and how day & date transmedia releases do not necessarily serve the wider franchise and may even be detrimental to multiplayer social games / live service #IPs a la #Fallout. A few personal favorites: - "Focus on the bedrock of [your] franchise – the video games themselves – before seeking expansion elsewhere. [...] If you don't have an awesome game, you don't have any advantage in making a TV show compared to any completely original pitch from somebody else. " - "There's this concept of ‘primary and ancillary’ but you can't think that way anymore – everything is primary. [...] If you have a great show and you make an okay game, the gamers are going to roast you, and if you have a great game and you make an okay show, no one's gonna watch it." Looking forward to future developments in that space! Full article available here: https://lnkd.in/e3Z5U_gd #entertaintment #marketresearch #gaming #movies #franchises

It’s great to see one of my favorite game franchises get a lot of attention with the recent TV show from Amazon Prime. Fallout is an incredible world, and in this video we talk about its world building, and how important it is to create a rich and deep world if you want to create any game that can reach beyond your core audience. #gamedev #fallout Why Is Fallout So Good? Why did we choose NetEase Games, what does stepping out of our comfort zone mean, what kind of game are we making, what are our plans for the studio to grow? In case you missed it, last week David Vonderhaar sat down with GamesIndustry.Biz to answer all these questions, and more. https://lnkd.in/grm8RbMj 🗣 "I was really, really impressed by the NetEase ecosystem, the totality of everything behind you that supports you.” 🗣 "Running a studio is not the same thing as designing one part of a video game. You have to think about everything all the time." 🗣 “[Our game] is a co-op first-person shooter, and it's not going to be about killing a lot of people all the time. It's more nuanced than that." 🗣 "I feel like the pressure should be on the people who are not trying to innovate, not the people that are trying to." #BulletFarm #NetEaseGames #Gaming

The predictability of Nintendo's 2024 content in one picture There has been a lot of talk lately about Nintendo not attending Gamescom and having a relatively light slate in 2024 (perhaps related, perhaps not), as if this is some kind of big surprise or breaking news. I had this one infographic in my mind for days and was struggling to find it until today. Reddit user RepofSnails nailed it with this 2017 vs 2022 comparison graph for Switch titles. Of course, Tears of the Kingdom was released in 2023. But the general point is pretty interesting! If we extended this further (I did in Excel), across many more titles, you would find that the 5-year cycle across multiple franchises is incredibly predictable. We are currently right in the middle - the donut hole. So, is this surprising at all? No - it's exactly what has been happening for years!

No ghost trap? No problem, use your phone to trap the latest Ghouls from Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. 👻 🎬 For the latest addition to the Ghostbusters franchise, Sony has released an AR game, featuring ghost nemesis, old and new. 🤳 Users are instructed to place a ghost trapper in their environment and tap the screen to capture the pesky ghouls. Once you’ve trapped the ghost, you’ll be prompted to “call” and receive a fun video message from one of the new stars from the movie. ⭐️ After completing the experience, users are invited to buy tickets directly from the web page which would unlock further ghoul-trapping games. A fun incentive for users to prolong their in-game experience. #augmentedreality #ARexperience #marketing

A great story about going against the tide (no pun intended, or is it?). A smart move by an indie game maker landed him a plethora of sales, exactly because he was crazy enough to launch on the same date as Starfield (AAA title). The strategy proved brilliant. He succeeded because no one else indie was crazy enough to launch, so he was literally left alone at 2nd place. Anyone who wasn't looking for Starfield had one interesting choice! And it paid off. Can it work again? Who knows. Once others realize this strategy, it's very likely there will be future competition for 2nd place, as others will start to compete. I think the key takeaway is creative thinking. Those who dare walking where others fear to tread is taking a big risk as well as reward. #gamedevelopment #releaseday #businessstrategy
