Good nutrition is basic requirement for a healthy household. When families have access to nutritious food, they are better equipped to protect themselves from illness, maintain energy for daily tasks, and build strong immune systems. By prioritising nutrition, we not only enhance individual wellbeing but also strengthen the household’s ability to prepare for and withstand crises, whether they are health-related or economic. Let’s continue to advocate for nutrition as a foundation for long-term resilience. #NutritionMatters #HealthAndWellbeing #ResilienceBuilding #CommunityResilience Swasti Siddhi Mankad

One of the most memorable and instructive statements from Namita Thapar on Shark Tank India is, "ye meri expertise nahi hai, I am out" (This is not my expertise, I am out). As a Dietitian specialized in diabetes, I find this mindset incredibly relevant to our field. As healthcare professionals, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care to our clients. This commitment means recognizing the limits of our expertise and understanding when to refer a client to a colleague with the appropriate specialization. For example, it’s always good to refer pediatric patients to dietitians who specialize in pediatric nutrition. These specialists are trained to address the unique nutritional needs and challenges of children, ensuring that young patients receive the most effective and tailored care. 🔹 Sometimes, a client’s needs may be beyond our current scope of practice. While it's tempting to take on these challenges in hopes of learning on the job, this "learn-as-you-go" approach can be risky and unethical. Our clients trust us with their health, and it is our duty to ensure they receive competent and informed care. 🔹 By referring a client to a colleague with the appropriate expertise, we ensure that they receive the best possible care. This collaborative approach enhances outcomes and fosters a professional network of trust and support. Let's continue to support one another. ✅ "Comment" your unique specialties so that we can make referrals when necessary. ➡ This not only benefits our clients but also strengthens our professional community. #EthicalPractice #Healthcare #Dietitian #DiabetesSpecialist #ProfessionalIntegrity #ClientCare #Referrals #Collaboration Indian Dietetic Association Mumbai Chapter IAPEN India ICNC 2024 ESPEN - European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism The Nutrition Society Nutrition Society of India, Delhi Chapter Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI)

Women are Shakti. “Addressing malnutrition amongst women: A call to action for Poshan Maah” Working on Femease, a startup working on women wellness, I had the opportunity to attend the celebration of Shakti Divas by Ministry of Women & Child Development, by the Government Of Rajasthan, where the Chief Guest was honourable Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Madam Diya Kumari ji. As we step into September 2024, the Ministry of Women & Child Development has been observing the 6th edition of Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month), a crucial initiative aimed at combating malnutrition among women and children across India. Malnutrition remains a significant challenge, particularly for women, impacting their health, productivity, and overall quality of life. Despite advancements in health care and nutrition, many women continue to face deficiencies in essential nutrients, affecting their well-being and the well-being of their families. Poshan Maah serves as a timely reminder of the importance of nutritional awareness and the need for comprehensive strategies to address this issue. It is a month dedicated to enhancing knowledge, promoting healthy eating practices, and ensuring that nutritional needs are met effectively. This September, let's focus on: 🌸Raising awareness about the impact of malnutrition on women’s health. 🌸Supporting initiatives that provide nutritional education and resources. 🌸Advocating for policies that improve food security and access to essential nutrients. 🌸Our collective efforts can drive meaningful change. Let’s leverage Poshan Maah to foster a healthier, more informed society. Together, we can make a difference and work towards a future where every woman has access to the nutrition she needs to thrive. #PoshanMaah #NutritionMonth #WomenHealth #MalnutritionAwareness #India #PublicHealth #womenfounders #femtech

Recently, MANKIND PHARMA LTD visited a small village, Kalsuri, in Raigad, Maharashtra. There was a dire need for health examinations and awareness in the area. Moreover, the team also got to know about the vulnerability among people around their health issues. Mankind has always believed that every health check-up in a rural location is more than just a check-up; it's more like a tender reminder to people about the significance of good health. The objective of mankind's partnership with the Swadesh Foundation is to help people get the right medication and support. This is an opportunity to not just reinforce people's belief in health care, especially in villages, but also continue to empower lives through health camps. #medicalcamp #philanthropy #healthcare #healthcamp #togetherwecan

This was in 2010-11 (when I was working at Biocon) that I first learnt how there are multiple medicine brands of the same composition (and mostly same quality) at different price points. I was quite surprised at this finding at first. I had then embraced it; and have over the years found good substitutes for various prescriptions that optimized cost and quality. I have also helped numerous friends, family members, acquaintances in substituting their prescriptions with a more optimized set. I have experientially learnt that this makes a huge difference in most households, especially the ones with chronic condition patients. Most families with chronic condition patients need to spend 3k+ /month on medicine and that’s a significant spend (5+% of household income) in 90% of Indian households. There are 100+ Million such households in India. I have looked at this space closely post my last exit (EnCloudEn/Quantum). It's very encouraging to see a few companies building in this space already. However, the scale of impact is still very small. The penetration of all the private players combined is still <1% of the market. And the problem has only gotten worse with high inflation on medicine prices in the last few years. This space still needs a number of players; and mission-driven founders to come and build. The big challenge here is awareness and it will only grow with more scale and more people talking about it. So, here we are: starting Isomeds. We are here to help chronic condition patients cut their monthly spend on medicine bills by 50+% by recommending high quality, better priced substitutes. We are starting with a physical pharmacy in Vijayanagar (Bangalore). We will also be taking online orders via web and an app. We will be launching the web/app in the coming weeks.

I was honoured to participate in a panel discussion on "Ensuring Holistic Health Through the One Health Approach” at the 9th IHW Summit Awards, Mumbai. The esteemed panellists included Mr Nawin Sona, Health Secretary, Government of Maharashtra Ms Pritee Chaudhary IRS, Regional Director-FSSAI Gautam Khanna, CEO, PD Hinduja Hospital Ramakant Deshpande, Executive Chairman, Asian Cancer Institute And we had Kamal Narayan Omer, CEO IHW, throwing questions at us :) One Health, while not a new concept, has gained significant traction in recent years. The rising severity of zoonotic diseases and the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health highlight the need for a unified approach. The central idea is to make the Earth a sustainable place to live for all livings systems – humans, animals and plants (environment). Infact, Wellness Centres are already making valuables contribution to the One Health approach by promoting preventive healthcare using evidence based protocols. The key advantages are: 1) Incorporating AYUSH protocols to enhance immunity. A strong immune system is essential for preventing/managing infections. 2) Exploring herbal formulations as a potential solution to the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance. This offers a complementary approach to conventional medicine. Infact, Pashuayurveda is being used in bovine care and besides saving in costs (vis-à-vis anti-biotics), the anti-biotic residue is lower in the end product that is for human consumption. 3) Alongside the primary line of allopathic treatment, Integrating alternative therapies. A holistic approach can lead to better patient outcomes. I believe the One Health approach presents a powerful opportunity to create a healthier future for all. And all of us as consumers can make this a success by being mindful of our consumption habits. The suggestive action points included: 1) Reconfiguring our academic curriculum so that the future generation is better prepared by having a deeper understanding of this complex problem. So allopathic doctors, AYUSH doctors, Food scientist and bio-diversity experts will work together. 2) Incentivise citizens to take care of their health by way of insurance benefits. This can be a powerful motivator. 3) Monitor land-use ferociously #OneHealth #HolisticHealth #AYUSH #AntimicrobialResistance #ZoonoticDiseases #betransformed Atmantan Wellness Centre Alphabet Media Sharmilee Kapur Dr Manoj Kutteri IHW Council

8moPIP is certainly a much-needed initiative. As Sunish Jauhari says collaborative innovations may be the missing link in fast-tracking outcomes. One small suggestion (apologies if this had already been thought of)..... how about organising hackathons in our colleges and Universities on the broad challenges of undernutrition?
