💼 👓 As a partner of the RESPECT project, MEET Battery Research Center is actively involved in the project as the leader of the task 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘤 and 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 within the working group dedicated to '𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧'. ✅ In the RESPECT project, MEET is focused on recovering electrolytes and lithium, valuable resources often discarded in conventional recycling processes. Their advanced methods employ liquid extraction with supercritical fluids, a technology proven in the pharmaceutical and food industries. By combining this with selective chemical 'sequestering' agents, they achieve increased efficiency in recovering target substances and significantly reduce the emission of harmful effluents into the environment 🌍 💡 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭? The transition towards clean energy and electric mobility projects the disposal of hundreds of millions of lithium batteries in the coming years. At MEET, they see the RESPECT project as a vital alternative to address this challenge, as the processes to be developed are designed to adapt to a wide range of battery technologies, shapes, and sizes. This will not only contribute significantly to environmental decarbonisation but also strengthen the value chain of the European metal industry as a whole. With their solid experience in all stages of the lithium battery industry, they play a key role in the continued success of the project. ✳️ Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET) at the University of Münster is one of the leading battery research centres in Germany 🔋Internationally, they are among the main promoters of high-level research in the fields of battery recycling, battery materials, cells, and electrochemistry. The goal of their research facility is to develop sustainable, high-performance batteries for the future and to make a decisive contribution to advancing battery cell production in Europe. Through their work, their team of around 150 researchers at MEET Battery Research Center is responding to the steadily increasing demands 📈 on batteries as energy storage – for example, through electromobility 🚘 the expansion of renewable energies, smart building technology 🌇 or the debate surrounding air taxis. At the same time, their research team is pioneering new areas of application for future batteries. Visit the MEET website 👇

New invention: The oxygen-ion battery International Research Awards on New Science Inventions Visit: nesin.sciencefather.com Lithium-ion batteries are ubiquitous today - from electric cars to smartphones. But that does not mean that they are the best solution for all areas of application. TU Wien has now succeeded in developing an oxygen-ion battery that has some important advantages. Although it does not allow for quite as high energy densities as the lithium-ion battery, its storage capacity does not decrease irrevocably over time: it can be regenerated and thus may enable an extremely long service life. In addition, oxygen-ion batteries can be produced without rare elements and are made of incombustible materials. A patent application for the new battery idea has already been filed together with cooperation partners from Spain. The oxygen-ion battery could be an excellent solution for large energy storage systems, for example to store electrical energy from renewable sources. Volvo Group has announced their decision to continue developing the internal combustion engine with hydrogen, for it to become a propulsion technology. On top of this, they have decided to launch PhD scholarships for this project, which will involve two PhD students conducting research at Chalmers University of Technology and at Lund University, whilst also being employed by the Volvo Group. This concept of using hydrogen within an internal combustion engine fits in well with Volvo Group’s use of a range of propulsion technologies. The group is working towards their aim of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emission-enabled products, along with solutions and services by 2040. The article below depicts the clever and interesting approach Volvo Group has taken to ensure that they can continue their research on the internal combustion engine. Volvo has made it clear that through their current project, they are primarily focused on the use of hydrogen within internal combustion engines to help automotives reach net zero. The FreeTwinEV project, funded by European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, focuses on enhancing Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave research capacities in advanced battery management systems through Digital Twinning. A digital twin is a virtual model that accurately reflects a physical object. For batteries, this means improvements in lifespan, efficiency, and overall performance which are critical for both mobile and stationary applications. Dr. Gabriel Gálik the project coordintor from Faculty of Electrical Engineering STU, stated, “The FreeTwinEV project is not just about advancing battery technology but is also a strategic move to amplify Slovakia’s contribution to the European Green Deal. By extending battery life by just 20%, we could cut down CO2 emissions by up to 40 million tons annually. This is a significant stride towards sustainability.” Peter Cuninka, Director of Centre of European Projects, Cooperation with Practice, Innovations and Technology Transfer at STU stated: „The project creates a robust partnership among prestigious institutions, including the University of Twente (NL), Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH (LCM) (AT), and ADDSEN, s.r.o. (SK). Miroslav Konecny 🌟 Funding Sensible Innovation: The project builds on the Addsen process excellence in #horizonEurope and opens new opportunities in battery industry incl. electric vehicle sector in Slovakia. #EUhorizonSK #battery #EV #Twinning #FundedByEU

🚗 When something becomes more efficient, cheaper, or easier to use, people tend to use more of it. This can partially (and sometimes significantly) offset the expected benefits of greater efficiency. New research by Dr Milad Haghani (UNSW), Prof David A Hensher AM, PhD, FASSA, FAITPM, FCILT (University of Sydney) and Prof Hadi Ghaderi (Swinburne University of Technology) is exploring the often-overlooked factor of the rebound effect. It’s the phenomenon where energy-efficiency gains, such as those from electric vehicles, can lead to an increase in overall use.
