Since the dynamic duo Paul Salman and Vegard Kleven took the reins, Kapitol has become even more creative and the addition of Eirik Myrvang brings even more muscle. Opacity is the common characteristic of most Arabian Gulf sovereign wealth funds, but ADQ’s disclosure this week with a prospectus for a bond issue shines a light on the Abu Dhabi fund’s evolution. ADQ disclosed that it was given US$78 billion of assets, including US$31 billion contributed by Etihad, as well as US$36 billion in cash. It has swelled from US$146 billion in 2021 to US$166 billion in 2022 and US$196 billion in 2023 – very close to estimates made by Global SWF, the only research platform to put a value on ADQ.
