#ThrowbackThursday This time last year, with our digital partner Human Service Solutions, PowerFlite created this bold, colorful Annual Report for MASSCAP, the Massachusetts Association for Community Action. We mixed broadly-framed images and vivid, saturated tones – their brand colors – with people-centric background patterns to celebrate and draw dramatic attention to the incredible results Massachusetts' 23 Community Action Agencies have gotten for families and individuals in their communities statewide. As a non-profit, MASSCAP puts most of their budgets toward people, not printing, so we were careful to develop a design that could be produced beautifully without extra cost, yet would also easily convert into a powerful website downloadable PDF. Although it's hard to express the entirety of what they do for people, we also developed their new "Supporting Our Communities, Building Better Futures" theme to try to capture what they are about. #business #nonprofit #clientwork #massachusetts #AnnualReports #design #DoSomethingGreat

Is your nonprofit or charity video TOO GOOD? 🤔 If your production value is 🔥 it may be working against you... Had a great chat today with Andy King about fundraising, video production, and distribution. He gave a lot of examples of what NOT to do when fundraising. For example: 🚫 High gloss, thick paper, super slick direct mail doesn't convert! ❓ Do you know what does? ✅ Cheap paper that was OBVIOUSLY printed at home. "If I see that fancy mailing I know that you don't need my money. You'll just waste it on printing," Andy said. We talked a lot about remote video production. When Patchbay Media is working with charities and nonprofits like Whitman-Walker, we consider solutions like remote interviews to maximize our budget. Interviewees hop into a Riverside.fm studio and we capture their story remotely, saving thousands. Add some professional motion graphics and music, and you can create an engaging montage of stories from your staff, beneficiaries, volunteers, clients, patients, and others that may even have MORE impact than a traditional production. Whitman-Walker showed this patient stories montage at their fundraising gala and it was a big hit. Grateful to all the participants who were willing to share their incredible stories with us.

❗As we move toward the end of the year and the beginning of another, many nonprofits want to put out stats and information to their donors and collaborators to show the impact they've made on their mission. Here's some tips regarding translating data into design - ⚡ Visual design should first and foremost tell more than words can alone. 📸 The idea that a picture is worth 1,000 words applies to design, especially when communicating quantitative information. 💡 Make sure your visual supplements or translates your data completely, making your data sets more clear, not less. 💭 Serve a purpose. Describe, explore, or decorate.
