Enhancing work-integrating care & prevention for patients with musculoskeletal disorders in physically demanding jobs

Elevating Occupational Health: The Impact on Return to Work of Public Hospital Collaboration with Private Occupational Health Services 👩⚕️🤝👩🚒 This Finnish register-based cohort study shows that a simple Coordinated #returntowork (CRtW) model, a collaboration of several public hospital care and private occupational health service providers works to shorten the time of RTW after #orthopaedicsurgery. In the CRtW model, a hospital physician in charge of discharge of the patient makes an electronic referral to occupational health services, the occupational healthcare meets the patient shortly after, and work capacity and support actions are individually evaluated. 📅 ✔ During the first year of the CRtW model, the average RTW period shortened by 9.1 days (95% CI 4.1 to 14.1) for #hip #arthroplasty and 14.4 days (95% CI 7.5 to 21.3) for #knee arthroplasty. The observed differences were sustained over longer follow-up times. For #lumbar #discectomy, the first-year decrease was not statistically significant, but the average RTW had shortened by 36.2 days (95% CI 33.8 to 38.5) after 4.5 years. 👉 https://lnkd.in/ebw2p-55 👏 Thank you Piia Lavikainen. Nice project! Think we can use more of this co-op strategy in the Netherlands too.
