Because POP is one of those secretive topics related to women’s health, it is important that we raise awareness about what it is, who it affects, and how it can be managed. 🌸POP can occur in women of all ages. About 50 percent of women who have birthed children experience pelvic organ prolapse. This means, if you are experiencing POP, you are not alone. 𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠    Yesterday the Inspector-General of Aged Care, Ian Yates AM, attended a Roundtable organised by AHPA’s Aged Care Working Group. Mr Yates is reviewing whether the recommendations from the Aged Care Royal Commission have been implemented. Those recommendations included several key reforms to ensure that everyone receiving aged care gets the allied health services they need.    The Roundtable heard from consumers receiving allied health services either in residential facilities or in home care. While consumers spoke highly of their experiences with allied health professionals, it was sobering how often they are not receiving the tailored health care needed to maintain function and quality of life; with some consumers paying for services out-of-pocket.    The Roundtable also heard from occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech therapists working with aged care consumers, who reinforced the issues raised.    It is clear the Royal Commission allied health recommendations have not yet been implemented. Instead, the state of allied health service provision, particularly in residential care, continues to deteriorate from the very low base as identified by the Royal Commission.      AHPA will continue to advocate for improved access to allied health services for aged care consumers. SOM Long COVID resources available The Society of Occupational Medicine Long COVID Special Interest Group has produced a new package of information on Long COVID and work including an updated leaflet on management, a one-page summary infographic, and a series of Myth Busters. They are launching alongside the special Long COVID themed edition of Occupational Medicine. SOM also has more information on the causes of health problems after SARS2 infection and effective practice for a sustainable return to work. The resources highlight the need for early, supportive healthcare intervention and workplace practice – both for people with Long COVID and those with long term conditions. #Caregivers of people with #MultipleSclerosis face various challenges when engaging in their daily occupations. Managing the challenges faced by caregivers as essential members of the treatment team contributes to improving their performance level in daily occupations and can finally enhance the quality of treatment interventions for patients. This study highlights #OccupationalTherapy (based on the #OccupationalAdaptationModel) can enhance mastery, occupational performance level, and satisfaction, and is recommended for caregivers of people with multiple sclerosis.

We all make mistakes and it can be very critical when it coms to "Terminally ill Patients", so Lets try to learn and try to avoid these top 10 mistakes in our OT Practice. Our commitment to providing compassionate care extends to every aspect of our practice, especially when it comes to handling terminally ill patients. 1. Neglecting Communication: Failing to communicate effectively with the patient and the interdisciplinary team can lead to misunderstandings and compromised care. 2. Lack of Assessment: Not conducting thorough assessments of the patient's mobility, strength, and comfort level can result in inappropriate handling techniques. 3. Ignoring Safety Precautions: Overlooking safety protocols, such as using proper lifting equipment or maintaining a clear pathway, increases the risk of injury to both the patient and the caregiver. 4. Poor Body Mechanics: Incorrect body positioning and lifting techniques can strain muscles and cause long-term physical harm to the caregiver. 5. Inadequate Training: Insufficient training in moving and handling techniques leaves OTs ill-prepared to address the unique needs of terminally ill patients. 6. Ignoring Patient Preferences: Disregarding the patient's preferences and autonomy in movement can lead to feelings of helplessness and loss of dignity. 7. Failing to Adapt: Not adapting techniques to accommodate changes in the patient's condition or mobility level can result in discomfort and compromised care quality. 8. Underestimating Support Needs: Underestimating the level of support required during movement and handling tasks can lead to accidents and injuries. 9. Neglecting Self-Care: Failing to prioritize self-care and seeking assistance when needed can lead to burnout and decreased effectiveness as a caregiver. 10. Lack of Documentation: Inadequate documentation of moving and handling procedures can lead to gaps in care continuity and potential legal issues.
