How true Pawan Sharma, Ph.D. Then there is A Tale of Wrong Metrics too... The Tale of Wrong Metrics In the world of metrics, a cautionary tale often goes untold—the story of how the wrong metrics can lead teams astray. Measuring success is crucial, but measuring the wrong things can be disastrous. It's like driving full speed ahead in the wrong direction. The Downward Trend Dilemma (Not) Surprisingly, a downward trend in the right metric can be more valuable than an upward trend in the wrong one. Because it's in those dips that we find the most profound learnings and actionable insights. Breaking the Vicious Cycle Too often, teams fall into the trap of chasing the wrong metrics. It becomes a vicious cycle: Measure the wrong thing, push for improvement in the wrong direction, see no real impact, and then double down on measuring the wrong thing again. #MetricsMatter #DataDrivenDecisions #BusinessInsights
A Tale of "Mismatched Metrics" Once in a peculiar corporate kingdom, the top brass decided it was time to evaluate the prowess of their diverse workforce. In a misguided attempt at uniformity, they organized a grand race for their employees: The race day arrived(Assessment 1), and the racers lined up on the same track, wearing racing numbers and anticipation on their faces. As the starting bell rang, confusion clouded the track. The fish wobbled precariously, the monkey tried to climb invisible trees, the leopard hesitated, and the snake meandered along. The story's moral is clear: assessing diverse talents with a uniform metric was like comparing apples to oranges, or in this case, fish to monkeys, leopards, and snakes. The best way to measure the skills is (Assessment 2) by recognizing and celebrating unique skills rather than forcing them into a race destined for absurdity. And so, in the corporate kingdom, whispers of change began to rustle through the leaves, as employees hoped for an assessment system that would truly value their strengths.

Learning and Development Project Partner | Head of Maintenance | Portfolio Manager | Operations Manager | Assistant Branch Manager | Senior Property Administrator | Senior Accounts Assistant |
What a day to be finally announcing this exciting news!! Surrounded by some amazing, driven and inspirational women 🙌 as well as the equally amazing Tim English! After taking some much needed time off after almost 16 years in property and project/asset management, where I worked in almost every role in the private rented sector to then moving over to social housing/temporary accommodation helping to house thousands of venerable people on a nightly basis. And where I fully immersed myself into the industry, learnt, grew, evolved, looked to inspire and make a positive impact, innovate, influence, mentor and lead and it quickly became my passion. This wasnt always easy and in some of the roles was quite challenging and to have my voice heard and my ideas accepted because I was a woman in areas where it was very male dominated but I do love a challenge and it's made me the person I am today 😊 with a huge bag of successes as well as the not so successful outcomes along the way. But, I am proud to have done and been a part of all of it. I am hugely grateful to those who consistently supported me and backed me, whom were a large group of mentors, colleagues, friends and family as well as complete strangers......to you I’d like to say thank you! And now with all those skills, knowledge, experience, ideas and thirst to continue to learn, evolve, innovate, influence and make a positive impact I chose to take a side step in my career and into a new and very exciting role of Learning and Development Project Partner at GBB Coaching & Consultancy So what do they do and what will I be a part of? Well, we aim to deliver behaviour changes for businesses through innovative, blended training programmes and tailored coaching packages. I will be part of a team that been helping premium brands, SMEs and individuals achieve their goals for over 15 years and with combined experiences of over 20 years in the industry. And whose mission since 2008 is to understand and build upon people's strengths. By focusing on what we are already confident and comfortable with, which in turn leads to faster results, better performances and - coincidently - improvements in our weaknesses. As well as promoting genuinely enjoyable working, not only in your business but in our business too. Owner, Elite 9 Talent Solutions | We provide customized workforce development solutions |Military Internships | Business Mgt Consulting | Resume Writing | Coast Guard COOL, Air Force COOL, and Army COOL Vendor
This morning I was preparing a note to my current cohort of U.S. Coast Guard leaders that completed week 3 of the RBLP Leader Certifications Building and Leading Resilient Teams program which discuss “providing purpose.” My thoughts led me to a recent event in my home state of South Carolina. Here’s my message to the cohort: Earlier this week, we engaged in an important discussion about "providing purpose" in the workplace. We explored how a clear sense of purpose can motivate individuals, foster collaboration, and ultimately drive success within an organization. Purpose gives our daily tasks significance; it creates a deeper connection to our work and helps us understand our larger role within a community. To illustrate the complexity of purpose, let's briefly shift our focus to a topic that some may find challenging but is nonetheless important: the recent execution of an inmate convicted of murder in South Carolina. This event, which took place after years of legal battles and debate, demonstrates the various perspectives on justice, redemption, and accountability. In the context of providing purpose, we can ask ourselves: what purpose does this act serve? For some, it might symbolize closure for the victims' families, a way to find peace in the face of tragedy. For others, it may provoke thoughts about the nature of punishment and the potential for rehabilitation. This situation forces us to confront our values and beliefs about justice and morality—how we define purpose in the lives of individuals and within society. As we ponder this, consider how these same themes play out in our daily lives and careers. Just as the state seeks to serve its purpose through the legal process, we can reflect on how our professional roles serve the greater good. Are we contributing to a positive purpose that uplifts others? Are we finding meaning in what we do, and how can we encourage others to discover their own sense of purpose? Let’s take this opportunity to reflect deeply—how can we make our work meaningful not just for ourselves, but for those around us? How can understanding these broader concepts of purpose enhance our engagement in the workplace? Your insights are valuable, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on how we can cultivate purpose in our lives and contribute positively to our communities. -Chris U.S. Coast Guard RBLP Leader Certifications SUNY Adirondack Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce
