Users spent, individually, an average of 5 hours a day on their phones, and the total mobile ad spend was of $362 billion, an 8% more than it was in 2022, and it’s expected to surpass $400B in 2024. So, now, let’s check it out in-depth 👇🏻 📲 Social apps are the new battleground: Social apps are seeing record figures in app spending, and the time spent in social apps has grown 9% in 2023. In fact, social media apps monopolized the top 5 subgenres (all verticals minus gaming) by time spent in the year, even though global downloads only grew 4% (less than in 2022). ✈️ Users seek real life experiences: Always with their phone in hand, users are starting to seek out-of-phone experiences. That has translated itself in a record-breaking travel app downloads, they went up 34% compared to 2019. 🎮 Will gaming apps finally be de-throned?: Consumer spend outside of mobile gaming has skyrocketed over the last 10 years, surpassing $64B in 2023. However gaming is still the leading vertical. When it comes to all other verticals, utility & productivity focused on privacy apps took the lead as the top subgenre of 2023, with a 42% year-over-year growth. The vertical was followed by shopping and entertainment (with a focus on streaming, which led the subgenres in global consumer spend) apps.
