If an airplane is not balanced, it can make it difficult to control and can lead to accidents. An airplane's balance is determined by the distribution of weight throughout the aircraft. The center of gravity (CG) is the point at which the weight of the aircraft is evenly distributed. The CG must be within a certain range in order for the aircraft to be safely flown. If the CG is too far forward, the aircraft will be nose-heavy and difficult to lift off the ground. If the CG is too far back, the aircraft will be tail-heavy and difficult to control in flight. On March 17, 1966, the Bell X-22, a revolutionary American V/STOL (Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft, took to the skies for the first time. This unique X-plane boasted four tilting ducted fans, offering incredible versatility during takeoff. When the A-12s started flying out of Area 51, air traffic controllers were briefed about the Oxcart program. However, only trusted controllers were in the know, and a security system was created to keep it quiet from other controllers. Paul Crickmore's book, Lockheed Blackbird Beyond the Secret Missions, reveals that when the A-12s were operating routinely above 60,000 feet, their pilot used a simple code to hide their actual height from eavesdroppers. The base altitude would change daily, and the pilot would report to the center that he was at base + a number. This way, ATC could keep a watchful eye out for other high flying traffic. The Center of Pressure (C.P) also has a significant role to play here. The C.P is a point on the airfoil in which the lift and drag forces are exerted or the point where the resultant lift acts. It is situated at 1/4 (25%) distance from the leading edge of the airfoil and it's moving about the C.G causing the aircraft to be either nose-heavy or tail-heavy if the movement is either too far-fore or too far-aft from the C.G

While the de Havilland Sea Vixen was a formidable all-weather interceptor, its operational history was unfortunately marred by a high accident rate. The photos show some other differences. Although the twin engine f22 seems to have an advantage in survivability, the single engine f35 needs half the engine parts, half the maintenance personnel so half the fails are expected compared to the f22. This means much better availability for the f35.
