this is a really interesting reconfiguration of the traditional pain scale
When Indigenous Elder advisors in the Northern Saskatchewan Cree community of Pelican Narrows indicated that Western pain scales may not be responsive tools for pain assessments in their community, Dr. Stacey Lovo and her colleagues worked with them to develop and test a community-directed pain scale, shown above. Dr. Lovo, an SK-NEIHR Co-Principal Investigator, and her graduate student and first author Tayah Zhang worked with Elder Rose Dorion and Knowledge Keeper Sally Sewap on this scale, which they have now published in The International Journal of Circumpolar Health. SK-NEIHR Principal Investigator Dr. Heather Foulds also contributed to this project as a co-author. More than 13 000 chemicals are used in plastics and more than 3000 of these are known to be hazardous. Many of them cause adverse health outcomes in people, including diseases like obesity, heart disease and cancers, and can impact fertility, sperm count and cause preterm births. We are exposed to plastics chemicals throughout our lives, and via the entire plastics life span. A new study by Leonardo Trasande and coauthors shows that the costs of these health impacts are astronomical, about US$250 billion in 2018 in the USA alone. These costs are equivalent to 1.22% of the Gross Domestic Product. 🔴 We need to #BAN #ToxicChemicals in #Plastics! #INC4 #PlasticsTreaty https://lnkd.in/gfwWf5KX

Therefore, to make this effort efficient and sustainable, the committment of health care institutions, governmental and private entities is crucial. Hopefully this synchronization will come with time thanks to the effort and inititative of outstanding figures like yourself. #healthcare #criticalcare #neuroscience Neurocritical Care Society

‘a ticking time bomb, ready to detonate and wreak havoc’ The % likelihood of a Will being present generally follows age by decade. So, no surprise that less than half over 55 year olds don’t have one. But, we’re not going to scare them into writing a Will, so what’s the solution? Until we break the link between people thinking a Will is only a document needed in relation to ‘death admin’ we’re never going to shift the needle. We need to reposition a Will as a life driven document. A good thing for anyone to have, whatever age. We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow., are we ready? An opportunity to take control; sort out our affairs; look after those people (and good causes) we care for and to shape our legacy. Access to quality Will writing also needs to be made easier. Technology has a role to play. People’s lives are changing and business models need to change too. That said, we also need to strike the right balance between an increase of provision and the maintaining of safeguards. Remember A Charity Institute Of Legacy Management Legacy Futures Hospice UK
I spoke with the @Daily Express after our research found that more than half of over 55s have not yet formalised their will: https://lnkd.in/eZMrf9K6 Mayo Wynne Baxter | #Will | #PrivateClient | #EstatePlanning
