Continuing the WAB Weekly Alternative Buzzer Dec. 24, 2023 2. Transit Safety- Pedestrian Safety : Petition 10,000 names : https://lnkd.in/gerBwMGy BC VISION ZERO IN ROAD SAFETY GRANT PROGRAM Deadline is Jan. 15, 2024 https://lnkd.in/giBgChnT contact bcinjury@ bcchr.ca See latest Newsletter dated Dec. 22, 2023 https://lnkd.in/gYW-ecsV Letter received about Better Empowerment of Transit Operators & Drivers:: I would like to see transit drivers have more empowerment and be equipped with ways to control the kind of people getting on or being removed from a bus or sky train. Similar to flight planes, people who are intoxicated or appear to be in an unpredictable state of mental illness or exhibit any kind of violent behaviour should not be allowed onto the bus or sky train. I am not sure what the current policies are, however, riders should be able to feel safe and secure during their ride on public transit. Riding on public transit should not be a stressful experience or people will not wish to take the transit. Simply installing an emergency button is not good enough in what our society has become. This is one way I would suggest that would help alleviate many riders’ anxieties. https://lnkd.in/gqPVaVaf https://lnkd.in/gk9FbjeK Drivers killed 1.2 million people worldwide in 2021, costing the global economy $1.8 trillion, according to a World Health Organization report https://lnkd.in/g983-Uab https://lnkd.in/g2cjw4Sf https://lnkd.in/gtqnniPz https://lnkd.in/gwyKxTvw https://lnkd.in/g9N3jZaw https://lnkd.in/ghwQi5Tz https://lnkd.in/grjjVxGg

Alert: if you take Pace, be aware that there may be a longer wait. SCR, one of the companies that provides rides for Pace, is on strike today. Pace is working to move rides to other companies. Consider other options including TAP or RAP trips. During this strike, you can take free rides on CTA and Metra, as another way to get around. Add extra time when moving around the city because more people are coming to Chicago every day for the DNC. Links: PACE Taxi Access Program (TAP) https://lnkd.in/gAiRZqDv PACE Rideshare Access Program (RAP) https://lnkd.in/gCp_d9FK Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) or Metra -- free rides with ADA Paratransit Card.

I bet here's something you may not be aware of? Did you know that you can be fined up to £1,000 if you do not tell DVLA when your address changes. If you're planning on moving home soon, start preparing to change your address with the DVLA as early as possible. You should notify the DVLA of your house move at least 2 weeks before moving. Not notifying the DVLA when you move house can get you in trouble for not changing address on driving licence? So, remember, if you fail to update your address when you move house, you could be at risk of a fine. Even if your new accommodation will be temporary (university halls, for example) you need to inform the DVLA as soon as possible. #notification #dvla #movinghouse #fraud #homeaddress #drivinglicense

The force of a train hitting your car equals the force of your car crushing a soda can. A typical freight train can take more than a mile to stop, even when emergency brakes are applied. It's important that families know the meanings of common signage found near railroad crossings. Does your family know these four common signs and signals they might encounter near railroad crossings? What superpower do London taxi drivers have? Amidst a complex labyrinth of 25,000 streets, they are able to swiftly navigate from point A to point B – without the help of a GPS. They spend years committing this intricate map to memory, thereby building “The Knowledge” (as the test to become a cabby is dubbed). The result? An enlarged posterior hippocampus, the part of our brains responsible for transferring memories from short-term to long-term storage. This research demonstrates that memory is not always a natural-born talent, but a learned skill that can literally change both the structure and function of our brains. To practice training these attention skills that London taxi drivers have, join 15 Minutes of Positivity, the practice group I host every Monday - Friday at noon: https://lnkd.in/gCfmw6cD Want to learn more about this specific study? With the ongoing MRT breakdown that requires bus bridging services, I can imagine the additional workload of bus captains to maintain this ad-hoc operation. I wonder if the authorities had ever considered having a standby group of volunteers which will augment existing bus captains, just like how we have NSmen. In terms of regulation, an Omnibus Driver’s Vocational Licence is required but how about having drivers with a Class 4 and Bus Driver’s Vocational Licence during such scenarios? In terms of training, an orientation drive plus 6-monthly currency with a small size of perhaps 30 drivers to trial? Seems pretty plausible to me. It's about using manpower where it is available and not cuffing ourselves to regulations while doing it safely.
