In an era dominated by fast fashion, trends come and go in the blink of an eye. We impulsively purchase products and especially garments that are too cheap to give it a second thought, only to discover they quickly fall out of style, leaving us with a wardrobe full of regrets. I personally believe in a different approach—one that values products built to last. Whether it’s a vintage car that invites to hands-on maintenance, a robust toaster or kitchen machine with readily available spare parts, a solid built coffee machine that brings me joy every morning day after day for many many years to come or if it’s a garment that i like to wear season after season and that rather wears in than out... I prefer to invest in quality, to embrace the longevity of my possessions, and find satisfaction in products that stand the test of time and collect stories. What got you here won’t get you there. We hear this oft-repeated adage but can we practice it? Yesterday, while fly fishing I had a great run of 8+ trout in an hour. They all hit on the same fly. Then suddenly, the action stopped. It took me a while to realize that conditions had changed - time, temperature, bug hatch, etc. But it was soooo hard to give up that initial fly after such success. When I finally changed flies, I had even greater success (10+). It struck me about the parallel in many companies I see. It’s like this in small and growing companies. We see good success, but then a plateau or even regression. It’s probably the hardest job of a ceo to realize that many of the people, policies and processes which got the company to this point are actually hindering next-stage Don’t be afraid to change.

----HOW TO BE A GREAT DIRECTOR---- Recently… I got to direct a project for Coca-Cola. (What????!!!) The Coca-Cola Refreshing Films Program has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. There's actually so much to appreciate about it, I made this animation to explain in more detail~ https://lnkd.in/gXYRCBRt Being on set with so many talented and hard working people... it was so exciting I didn't sleep for 2 days. I didn't even have room left to feel nervous- I just felt a powerful confidence running through me. Which~ makes me smile because I think I caught some people off-guard. I'm usually a pretty quiet, timid person. But not when it comes to directing. My endless analytical thoughts become quiet- my social anxiety disappears. The only thing that matters is the project. Time stops- I'm holding my breath- I'm creating. I'm capturing a human experience. I'm guiding subtle expressions, eye glances, voice tone- I'm reaching into my actors and gathering their essence and spinning it into something meaningful that will last forever. ...How do you become a great director? You have to fall in love with the human experience, and the incredible opportunity to capture it. You have to love it so much that no matter how timid you may feel, you keep coming back to it with a ferocity that surprises everyone. And then nothing can stop you. Because you'll only get better every time you do it. #cocacolarefreshingfilms (More coming April 1st)
