Mental Health Advocate | School Counselor | Peer Mediator | College and Career Advisor | Lifelong Learner
As National School Counseling Week comes to a close, I reflect on the importance of the role of the school counselor. They are a bridge for so many vital functions of a campus. School counselors are student advocates, peer mediators, crisis managers, academic advisors, and strategic planners. While most of their work is behind the scenes, they lend a listening ear, an open heart, and a helpful hand to students during critical times in their development. They connect families to community resources. They aid staff during times of crisis. If you know a school counselor, recognize that they are likely carrying many unspoken burdens for those they serve. #schoolcounselor #k12education #k12schools #socialemotionallearning #mentalhealthmatters

When it comes to hiring teachers, there's often a tendency to prioritize professional experience, especially in high school settings. However, it's time to rethink our approach, particularly when it comes to elementary education. While seasoned high school educators bring valuable skills, the formative years of elementary schooling require a specialized touch. That's why it's crucial to take a different stance and prioritize hiring professional teachers with expertise in elementary education. By doing so, we can ensure that our youngest learners receive the tailored support and guidance they need to thrive academically and personally. Let's shift our focus to prioritize excellence in elementary education. #Education #ElementaryEducation #Hiring #Teachers #AcademicExcellence 📚

Perfect example of how politicians should stay out of "running" our schools. Besides the mishandling and lack of funding towards education, now they want to dictate where monies schools do get, where they should be spent. Maybe if they took the time to fix and amend gun laws vs how educators should spend and use those monies that they do get we would make better progress in staffing our schools with what our student bodies need. Don't get me wrong, school safety is important, very important but then again, if they fixed those guns laws that would minimize and I hope and pray lessen the chance of gun violence we have been experiencing. But mental health and awareness is key, very key in a child's, young adult's education and upbringing and success.
Strings attached to Arizona School Safety Program dollars are leaving school counselor and social worker positions unfunded throughout the state, as Republican leaders prioritize boosting campus police instead. The apparent mismatch between what schools need and what certain state leaders want to give them reflects an ongoing clash over which types of positions actually make a campus safer. https://lnkd.in/gpKeSXkA
