As we observe Black History Month, it's essential to address a stark reality for this community: Approximately 53% of Black children in the U.S. are likely to encounter a CPS investigation by the age of 18, a rate nearly double that for White children. This statistic is a sobering reminder of the inequalities faced by Black families. At PCA America, we embrace and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of African Americans, particularly in the arts, as highlighted in this year's theme. However, we also recognize the urgent need for equitable treatment and support for all families. This month, let's commit to creating a world where every child, irrespective of their background, has the opportunity to thrive. #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #ArtForChange #EquityForAll

As we move into Black History Month in the US I think it’s important that we remind ourselves that we should be working towards a position in which one month doesn’t become the only focus point in which Black creativity, contributions and accomplishments are acknowledged. That we live in a time when the curriculum is decolonized and no longer taught through a white lens. When the achievements and service of Black people are uplifted and celebrated with the same value placed on others. When businesses and organisations don’t need a special reminder to bring Black specialists and educators into the conversation. This not a criticism of BHM,it’s a really valid and important moment but this month should not be a tick box exercise for organisations and the work needs to continue all year round. The theme this year is “African Americans And The Arts’ recognising the important contributions of the Black community throughout American history and society and resilience in the face of discrimination. How are you honouring BHM in your spaces this year? If you need some last minute speakers do reach out as we have a couple of speaking slots available. #blackhistorymonth #bhm #blackhistorymonth2024

Black History Month 2024: Reclaiming Narratives. This year, the theme for Black History Month in the UK is Reclaiming Narratives. What does that mean? It means centring the conversations we have about Black experiences around Black experiences, and allowing Black voices to tell their stories on their terms. It means remembering the pillars of Black History in the UK whilst at the same time discovering and amplifying the voices and stories that have been buried or forgotten. This month provides us all with a fresh opportunity to celebrate the diverse experiences of our Black friends, families, and colleagues, and to reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. #BlackHistoryMonth #ReclaimingNarratives

During Black History Month, Alice Walker's quote takes on added significance as it reflects the historical and ongoing struggle for empowerment within the Black community. Throughout history, Black individuals and communities have faced systemic oppression, discrimination, and disenfranchisement. Despite these challenges, countless individuals have demonstrated remarkable resilience and strength in asserting their rights and fighting for equality. Alice Walker's quote reminds us of the importance of reframing narratives to center empowerment and agency. By acknowledging and celebrating the power within the Black community, we can inspire hope, resilience, and collective action towards a more just and equitable society. #BlackHistoryMonth is not only a time for reflection and celebration but also a call to action. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for racial justice and the need to address systemic inequities that persist today. By amplifying voices, advocating for change, and supporting efforts towards equality, we can honor the legacy of past struggles and work towards a more inclusive future. #BlackHistory
