🌍💼 Insights from the "Investor's Perspective: What Investors Want, What Investors Need" Panel 💼🌍 at the IMN ESG & Decarbonizing Real Estate Forum.
🌱 ESG Backlash and Fiduciary Duty: Even with ESG backlash, our job is still to prioritize responsible capital stewardship. ESG, now more than ever, is about generating sustainable, long-term returns.
📈 Staying the Course: Despite market ups and downs, many investors are sticking with their long-term ESG strategies. Consistency is key.
📊 Regulatory Future Proofing: ESG isn't just about being ethical—it’s practical. It helps us future-proof against inevitable regulatory changes that will erode asset value.
🚀 Performance and Diversity: Companies focusing on diversity tend to perform better and see long-term returns. Ignoring these elements can be costly.
🧩 Need for Empirical Data: There's a consistent and growing need for better data and standardization in measuring ESG impacts. Clear metrics and third-party verification are crucial.
We're in a time of great transformation, and it's exciting to see how our leaders continue to push the envelope to ensure investment returns while building a sustainable future.
The uncomfortable question I was left with was this:
If most of the 'ESG Backlash' is focused on diversity initiatives, how can we as ESG professionals best push back against this mounting prejudice in business environments? Right now it feels like, money talks and we stay quiet. Thoughts?

3moYou’ll certainly do great with your presentation, Alan. Although your area of expertise is not one I know much about the news every day about climate change and the drastic manifestations of same (and losses of property and lives) are startling. Best to you and your outstanding firm. Jeffrey
