Exciting news! The whitepaper “When will we have a clone? An industry perspective on the typical CLD timeline” has been published in BioTechnology Progress. Cell line development (CLD) represents a complex but highly critical process during the development of a biological drug. To provide alignment and an industry benchmark on this crucial workflow, a series of benchmarking surveys were conducted covering the three major stages: pre-transfection, transfection, and single cell cloning and lead clone selection. This paper provides unique and comprehensive insights into the time, resources and technologies involved across the major CLD activities from an industry perspective. It is unique in both the breadth of the questions and the number of contributing companies surveyed and was first shared earlier this week at BioProcess International US West. Recombinant expression in BL21(DE3) 𝘌. 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘪 is a relatively simple and cost-effective method for the production of certain recombinant proteins. Many of these products are intended for use as therapeutic agents in humans and animals, and as such, must be highly purified. The manufacturing and purification process of these products leaves the potential for contamination by host cell proteins (HCPs) from BL21(DE3) 𝘌. 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘪 strain. Such contamination can reduce the efficacy of the therapeutic agent and result in adverse toxic or immunological reactions. Thus, it is desirable to reduce HCP impurities to the lowest levels practical. .
