We’ve made huge progress on cancer in the last 50 years. Thanks to lifesaving research into cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, survival for all cancers combined in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s. But concerning results from a new analysis commissioned by Cancer Research UK* shows that the progress we’re making has slowed down in the last 10 years compared to previous decades. #CancerResearch

Out today in Nature Medicine is the latest update from the ZERO Childhood Cancer project. It reports the longer term clinical impacts of therapies guided by genomic analysis (precision guided therapy). This is the collective effort of so many people around the country, most notably the parents and children living with cancer. The results are quite remarkable, and make the compelling case that genomic analysis of childhood cancers does improve outcomes by identifying treatment options that would otherwise go unrecognised.
