Diversity means a lot when it touches you personally. It doesn't strictly mean that you need to be one to know one... Without entering into personal details, I have seen many individuals reaching out their true potential and being fully recognised once they felt welcomed and accepted. Diversity is about creating an environment where everyone feels respected and valued for who they are, regardless of their background, identity, or experiences. When people feel safe and supported, they are more likely to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.

Traditional communication strategies within nonprofit organizations often inadvertently perpetuate stigma, shame, and exclusion, particularly when addressing sensitive topics such as public health issues or social disparities. 🌈 We've got work to do this LGBTQIA+ History Month... 🗣️ I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to speak on a panel about the significance of LGBTQIA+ History Month. 💬 We reflected on where we've come from but also where we still have work to do regarding the ongoing challenges faced by the community and we underscored the vital role of active allyship in fostering understanding and support. 🗞️ We also discussed that there are many identities within our community that exist outside of the cis, white, gay, male experience who receive much less positive publicity. 🔎 As we ask for time and attention from people outside the LGBTQIA+ space, let's challenge ourselves to seek out different stories from within our community in order to practice the empathy, understanding, and acceptance that we preach. 🌈 Let's continue to engage in meaningful conversations and work together to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. 💡 A great place to start is Switchboard - National LGBTQ+ Support Line's "The Log Books" on Spotify. 🤝 ...or find charities that exist in your area and learn about who they support.
