Here are three ways to increase knowledge and support of the black community, this #BlackHistoryMonth and beyond.

Join us in reflecting on the State of Black America. This event brings together persuasive voices to discuss the historical and contemporary factors impacting the lives of Black people. It's an opportunity for leaders of corporations, educational institutions, and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) members to actively listen to sentiments that Black employees feel but may not express. Parents, clergy, neighbors, law enforcement officers, and teachers are also encouraged to take part in this conversation to gain insight into the thoughts of others and reflect on their own. This conversation is honest, sometimes raw, and always needed but rarely engaged in a mixed audience. Today we recognize and celebrate America’s “Second Independence Day,” Juneteenth. At GovEx, where we focus on putting data to work for the public good, we know that data was used to dehumanize Black Americans during slavery and that descendants of enslaved people have often been victimized by the unethical collection and application of data. We are committed to addressing structural and entrenched racism, recognizing the public sector’s role in perpetuating these legacies, and addressing these issues as a team and in collaboration with the cities we serve. This means examining analytical methods and data, actively working to eliminate bias, and advocating for data-driven policies that uplift Black Americans.
