Piggybacking on this post: For those new to job hunting in the game industry, if you see a studio with a massive list of open positions? That is a red flag. (Look at EA’s job openings as an example) In my experience, Hiring sprees = Firing sprees. And that may be fine for some folks temporarily, just understand what you are signing up for. Knowing, whether it be contract or a full time hire, come Monday, EVERYONE could be axed. Job security in games right now is a facade. If at all possible, look for smaller indie studios only hiring for a few key positions. These are studios that are more likely thinking strategically long term and only hiring when needed. Talk to your network. Everyone in the game industry knows someone who knows someone. And if you are not following Ben Kvalo? I highly recommend you do for some refreshing perspectives of where I think the industry is headed.

Sure, we’re Americans and geography isn’t our strong suit, but Oklahoma and Wisconsin aren’t close. On a scale of Infuriating to Amazing on a #job announcement, this falls somewhere in the middle. It’s a little bit #clickbait and switch (#clickbaitandswitch?). Someone looking for this job in #okc might not want to move. But it does provide a relocation incentive, so that makes it a little less crappy. I can’t tell if this is effective for those looking to hire. Or if it’s worthwhile for someone willing to move. Going from one small apartment to another, and a relocation bonus of $10k could go a long way. Selling a house, and buying a new one? That wouldn’t fully offset the cost. What’s the deal Epic? What’s your relocation assistance package like?

The Virginia Beach event was amazing. I got to catch up with some old friends and colleagues - and meet some new people who would love to join us on this journey to business ownership.
