Sports leagues such as the NBA need the youth audience more than the youth audience needs the leagues. And the youth audience is the games audience. Games don’t need league IP. Mobile gamers care more about fun experiences than playing with an NBA player. Fortnite’s biggest events aren’t when they add Shaq or Lebron but when they add Snoop, Travis Scott, and Eminem. This represents a huge shift in power and there’s no reason for casual mobile sports games to pay exorbitant fees for league-wide licenses. Just make great games.

Great to see EA SPORTS College Football 25 being so well received. Reminds me a lot of NFL2K, therefore, it reminds me of the Dreamcast. The console was so ahead of its time. ➤ The Dreamcast was the first console to feature a built-in modem for online multiplayer gaming, internet browsing, and even email access. ➤ It introduced downloadable content (DLC), with over 15 North American titles offering additional content ➤ Supported high visual fidelity, including VGA output and 480p resolution. ➤ It even featured early motion controls with the Sega Fishing Controller and a second-screen experience through the Visual Memory Unit (VMU). The Dreamcast was also the system where I played the most sports games. Note: Sports games offer clear benchmarks through real-world comparisons and consistent environments, making them ideal for highlighting a console’s strengths.
