Happy spring semester, CoLab! We are now heading into club season, with our org fair happening in exactly one week. After wrapping up Georgia Tech's spring all-majors career fair, we recognize the importance of adding club experiences that you're most passionate and excited about to your resume and portfolio. That's why CoLab's Melanie Chen and Michelle Lee are here to share their opinions on the best clubs to join at Georgia Tech as a Computational Media major (don't worry LMC majors, you're next!). This is a longer video, so sit down and get ready to take notes. There are SO many good clubs for CM majors, so please comment below some of your favorites and/or your experiences in them. *Important clarification: Our perspectives come from design positions. However, there are also front-end, back-end, and lead/management roles for all skill levels! That's all for now CoLab, see you next time! ☺️ #GeorgiaTech #LMC #Design #College #Clubs Background music credits: Novacane (instrumental) by Frank Ocean

Ally Behavior Centers shared a great strategy at the university career fair: Instead of applying to countless jobs randomly, focus on companies you genuinely want to work for. By connecting with alumni on LinkedIn and your university’s alumni portal, you can learn more about the company culture and the role you're interested in. These connections can help you get in touch with hiring managers, giving your resume a better chance of being reviewed by decision-makers, rather than just being filtered through an online portal.

HR Manager | Passionate about making a difference| Helping young people navigate a career in Retail | Promoting Equity
On Wednesday I had the privilege of attending Birmingham University's Part-Time careers fair. A great initiative focused on helping students gain transferable skills and earn money whilst they work towards their career goals. This is by far my favourite careers fair because: 👉🏾 Over 700 students register to attend. 👉🏾 Over 75% of students that attend are from ethnic backgrounds. 👉🏾 I improve brand awareness within the community and promote Screwfix as an employer of choice. I also shared some hints and tips with the students on how to navigate the application process including: ✅Tell us the hours you CAN work, not what you WOULD like to work. ✅Study the job description beforehand and ensure your CV draws out some of the skills we are looking for. ✅You all have experience so think about times when you have worked in a team, communicated with different people or had deadlines to meet - it doesn't always have to be previous retail experience! What do you do to help the next generation navigate job hunting? Share your tips below 👇🏾

Senior Project Engineer at JE Dunn Construction || Small Business Owner at Le Uccellino || Evans Scholar Alumni
Since it’s recruiting week for the JE Dunn Purdue recruiting team, I thought I’d share a few tips to help students prepare for the career fair this semester and know what we are looking for in the process. 1- Who you are: We want to learn who you are in the short time we have, so highlight the key items that make you stand out or that will help us have more insight into who you are. 2- Can articulate what you are looking for: We like to see students who have an idea in where they want to go for the summer, what role they would like, what they want to learn, and why they believe our company will meet their goals. 3- Why JE Dunn? (Or any other company): Do your research on the company. Find out what they do, and what it is about the company that interests you. Have questions prepared for the recruiters. 4- Confidence: Be confident in yourself and what you bring to the table. Make sure the conversation flows and have a back and forth conversation rather than letting it be one-sided. I always love going back to Purdue and getting to meet all the amazing students. Not only that, but helping students also prepare for the career fair whether they are looking into a summer internship with JE Dunn or any other company. It can be an intimidating process for the young students attending their first career fair, and I like to help out the students similarly to how I was helped by other industry professionals while I was a student in college. Boiler Up!
