CleanTech Lithium (AIM: CTL) has submitted expressions of interest (RFIs) to the Chilean government for five lithium projects as part of receiving a Special Lithium Operating Contract (CEOL) to produce the metal. A response from the Chilean government on the RFIs process is expected around 9th July 2024, when it will give more detail on how projects move forward to the award of a CEOL, CleanTech Lithium (CTL) added. RFIs have been submitted for CTL's two most advanced projects; Laguna Verde and Viento Andino (previously known as Francisco Basin) plus three additional submissions for unnamed projects in partnership with other parties. In a statement, CTL said the RFIs emphasise progress using its Direct Lithium Extraction, early community engagement and full alignment with Chile´s National Lithium Strategy. CTL added it changed the name of the Francisco Basin project to highlight that the project area is outside the area of a... More at #Proactive #ProactiveInvestors http://ow.ly/L1HJ105y1Qf

"If governments are to be serious about critical raw materials, they must have the leadership to stand behind the Act, and put in place the necessary incentives in order for the Act to realise its objectives," says Dominic Hamers, Executive Director of Geotechmin OOD. With a focus on sustainability, automation, and renewable energy, companies like GEOTECHMIN GROUP are leading the way in modern mining practices while facing challenges related to surging demand for crtitcal raw materials coupled with geopolitical tensions, delayed permitting procedures and lack of governmental support for required new investments in exploration activities. This is a very significant development: direct government support for US mining. The whole point of critical minerals is that global free markets are not expected by governments to be up to the task of resourcing strategic needs (defence, security and energy transition). If governments support downstream processing and manufacturing without de-risking primary mineral supply, they are courting danger - see for example the flight of heavy industry from Europe in the face of gas price war-profiteering. But governments are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to direct support for mining, because the mining industry is still essentially colonial in its approach to resource exploitation. Government has traditionally played a constraining role, limiting the business model's natural tendency to socialize adverse impacts while privatizing profit. Now it must also play an abetting role, which will have to be handled very carefully. The industry now needs to avoid biting the hand that's going to feed it. Business model innovation should be on the table. But perhaps the best thing it could do is learn how to walk away from bad projects. The commitment to test-to-disprove and pivot, however painful, is what underpins the public-private collaborations around tech start-ups. Junior mining does the opposite: test to reinforce the story. That leads to information asymmetry and speculative behaviour, which can only end in tears with public money involved.
LPO is clarifying that we can directly finance mining activity under the Title 17 Innovative Energy - Critical Minerals category. This is a big win for clean energy supply chains and our domestic manufacturing goals. It will also be the first time DOE will get involved in financing commercial-scale extraction, since historically we have been focused on processing. As always, LPO will prioritize financing for critical minerals mining projects that significantly reduce emissions, earn the support of affected Tribes and communities, and have strong labor, environmental and environmental justice benefits, while meeting other program requirements. https://lnkd.in/egTAdRNY

We are excited to see significant progress on the proposed BC-Yukon grid connection, a key move to strengthen the energy infrastructure that supports the mining industry in the Yukon Territory. The Government of Yukon is moving forward with pre-feasibility studies for a 765-kilometre high-voltage transmission line to connect the Yukon grid to the North American power grid through B.C. These studies will be supported by up to $40 million in conditional funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Critical Minerals Infrastructure Fund Program (“CMIF”), pending final due diligence. Enhanced energy infrastructure in the Territory creates opportunities for Fireweed’s projects in the Macpass District: improved project economics, reduced GHGs, and better overall environmental performance. This is a great day for critical minerals in the Yukon and in Canada. https://hubs.li/Q02QF49K0

Can you turn trash to treasure? A new funding program to help extract #criticalminerals and reprocessing opportunities in #minewaste is now open for applications. The Collaborative Development Program provides $5 million in funding for companies seeking to assess and find ways to extract value from residual materials left behind after the primary phases of mining and minerals processing. Some of Queensland's mine tailings harbor significant mineral resources, presenting an opportunity for businesses to explore for critical minerals in previously overlooked areas. Finding critical minerals within mine waste serves as a crucial step towards securing the building blocks of our renewable energy future, ensuring sustainable resource efficiency, and advancing our transition to cleaner energy technologies. The program will run as 1 round and remain open until the end of June 2028. The Collaborative Development Program is an action from the Critical Minerals Strategy, a $245 million investment to transform the state, national and global economy through the responsible use of our critical minerals. Visit https://lnkd.in/eHCybGrf Hear from Chief Government Geologist, Tony Knight about why embracing these opportunities is fundamental for our future. #wedeliver
