Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) managing director Peter Ledwidge joins Jonathan Jackson in the Proactive studio to talk about additional results from a rock chip sampling and detailed mapping program at Tchaga North within the Napié Project in Côte d'Ivoire, in which the company holds a 90% interest. A new high-grade #goldzone, named Central Zone, has been identified, bolstering Tchaga North's potential as a prime drilling target. Significant high-grade rock chip results were recorded, with values including 76.10 g/t and 24.34 g/t #gold, among others, supplementing earlier findings of up to 79.50 g/t. Samples yielding high gold grades predominantly came from quartz veins linked to newly identified east-west structural trends, which have not yet been subjected to drilling. Mako Gold Ltd (ASX:MKG) managing director Peter Ledwidge joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with results from the ongoing mapping and rock chip sampling program at the Tchaga North prospect at its flagship Napié Project in Côte d’Ivoire that yielded up to 79 grams per tonne of #gold. Ledwidge said the discovery adds to the already significant maiden resource of 868,000 ounces of gold. The company's approach involves expanding its resource base by targeting new areas. Out of 17 targets, Tchaga North has emerged as a high-grade zone, evidenced by the presence of a deep artisanal mining pit. The geology team at Mako Gold is actively engaged in mapping and rock chip sampling to generate new drill targets. This process has revealed new structures, prompting a change in drilling direction to effectively target these high-grade veins. ALLUVIAL GOLD At Different Depths Today I'm going to take you out to the Maryborough Goldfields and show you a heap of interesting examples of alluvial gold mining, the features of which can vary a quite lot depending on the depth of the field. We're going to take a look at surfacing, gully workings, shallow underground workings, shallow sinking, and deep lead mining, which are all types of alluvial workings at different depths. Alluvial gold deposits are formed when gold is eroded from its source in a quartz reef, and then transported by water and gravity to a new location. The gold makes its way downhill over time until it is eventually deposited into a river, stream or gully. One of the most important things to keep in mind when thinking about gold, is that it's heavy - real heavy, and over time it makes its way deeper and deeper down in the ground, or in a riverbed, until it can't go any further - usually when it hits bedrock. The old miners in the gold rush called this the bottom. The gold sits in a layer on top of the bedrock, a layer which the old timers referred to as washdirt, washing stuff, or simply stuff. This rich layer could be anywhere from less than an inch to a few feet thick. Unless you were over in the incredible Gravel Pits at Ballarat, where the washing stuff was reported to be an astonishing thirteen feet thick! The depth of alluvial workings generally depends on one important factor - how deep that bedrock lies beneath the ground.

There are gold-bugs but also many bond-bugs. The chart below posted by Thomas Parilla is one that many don’t want to look at or will even despise. However, it is undeniable that some gold in one’s portfolio acted as an excellent diversifier and increased the bottom line. As I am fond to say, gold is the only insurance that pays you to hold it. In the past, Wagner, the Russian military group, has taken control of artisanal gold mining sites in Mali, charging entrance fees and allegedly recovering gold themselves. More recently, it seems that the group has its eye on the country's mineral wealth in order to set up a reliable payment system in exchange for its deployment in Mali, after payments promised by the junta in power in Bamako failed to materialise. Of the three sites Wagner has identified, one is of particular interest: Loulo-Gounkoto, operated by Canadian corporation Barrick Gold. Comprising the Loulo and Gounkoto mines, it produced 19.4 tonnes of gold in 2022, almost a third of the country's production, estimated at around 66 tonnes. 🔵 Report by Benjamin Roger
