A significant wave of new inventions in advanced semiconductor packaging has emerged in recent years, driven by the rising demand for data processing in high-performance computing (HPC) applications, 5G networks, and autonomous vehicles. This overview highlights the increasing patent activity in areas such as fan-out packaging, interposers and interconnect bridges, and hybrid bonding. "Is the regulation of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) a wicked problem and why does it matter?" My paper examining this issue will be published in the Computer Law & Security Review journal. Available online here: https://lnkd.in/gC5-_iRF The regulation of new technologies, such as highly connected and automated vehicles ('CAVs), presents a unique and layered problem for regulators in Australia and internationally. They face the complex task of developing rules and regulations to meet these challenges against the backdrop of continuing uncertainty about the ultimate form of CAVs and the timeframe for their introduction. This paper undertakes a novel examination of whether the regulation of high level CAVs and their associated data will constitute a ‘wicked problem’ (being unstable, irrational societal problems which can not readily be determined or solved by governmental planning.). A new four quadrant framework to examine wicked problems is developed and applied. It draws on and expands the seminal work on wicked problems by Rittel and Webber, and Alford and Head. The new quadrant framework is used to critically reflect on whether the data challenges that CAVs present constitutes a wicked problem, and if so, how. More broadly, this paper considers whether evaluating the ‘wickedness’ of a problem is a useful exercise for regulators, and the potential impact on developing novel approaches to regulatory responses. This paper will form part of my upcoming Phd (in its final stages of development) on the legal implications that #connectedandautomatedvehicles present. #Anyverse synthetic datasets & #Sony sensors for #computervision: producing images that accurately represent the physical world and what sensors "see" opens the door to dramatically enhancing the accuracy and performance of the perception systems in #computervision, primarily trained with real-world and videogame engine datasets. There are two main problems with real-world data: 1) not enough variability 2 ) no coverage for vital corner cases. Videogame engines can be used to overcome these issues, but introduce another one: 3) datasets are not physically accurate for many mission-critical applications, so they become unreliable.
