As a campus that uses a #predictiveanalytics software to ensure targeted, strengths-based student support, I loved the report "How You Say It Matters" from New America! It combines #behavorialeconomics with #socialpsychology to help campuses create effective, ethical, and equitable communication. As part of our summer planning, my team will be using several of these strategies (social proofing, loss aversion, growth mindset, etc.) to evaluate our outreach plan. This should be THE vibe for 2024: "It is imperative that policies at the institutional, state, and federal levels expand college access and success for all students and ensures students of color are supported through positive campus racial climates that will lead to their social and academic success throughout and beyond college. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s limitation on the use of affirmative action, some colleges are doing away with their efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on campus; but we argue that there needs to be even greater efforts on college campuses to support the belonging and success of students of color, not fewer." The model, report, and suggestions for action deserve our time, consideration, and activation.
